The winner of this years Costa book award went to Sebastian Barry's Days Without End. A story about the lives and love of two young men who start out as dancing girls in a saloon in the west and their time as soldiers.

This is Brokeback Mountain with requited love. Here is a link to a review from the Irish Times, apt as the author is Irish.

I expect Hollywood will be lining up to make the film, it ticks a lot of boxes for them.

Love to all

Null

The whole thing strikes a null with me. Not heard of the author or the award. As for the story, it sounds like it was written by somebody that has no real knowledge of what the West was like. If they make it into a movie I predict a box office bomb. Of course that fantasy Swayback Hill made a few bucks, mostly from the 50 shades-type people I suppose. It amuses me that whenever somebody tries to write the story behind the story the presence of facts approaches zero.

Well as it's a book award ...

... for writers resident in the UK and Ireland I'm not surprised that a US resident hasn't heard of it. However it has an impressive list of winners as you can see here.
