I have a much older and not as well integrated program that you can try if you like.

It's written in Java and it definitely runs on Linux as you can see from the screenshots. I also tried it on Solaris once. It might even run on a Mac with OS X, who knows?

I really should rewrite it to make the user interface better but it's another thing on my todo list ...

Somachange on a Mac

I regret to report that it won't install properly on a Mac running OS X 10.3. The problem may be with the installer app however, not the app itself. I'd really like to try a functional version, since there are numerous features that seem worthwhile. I especially like the idea of assigning characters to "factions."

I'd also like a look at Joanne's app, if it ever becomes Mac compatible.

It's not Mac friendly unfortunately

I tried it on my own Mac with Mono (an open source .NET implementation), but no luck. I'm looking at a port, but it appears that it will be quite an effort, so I don't know when or if it will happen.

I'm working on a Mono port of it

I'm currently looking at doing a version in Mono so that Linux/Mac users can use it. I did try the application with Mono on Mac OS X as is, but the Windows.Forms portion of Mono is quite incomplete, so it doesn't quite run.

Anyways, being a total geek, I have a Mac, several Linux boxes, and Windows machines with which to experiment with this.

Having said all that...

I would prefer not to have to rewrite the GUI in GTK# as that would be a major piece of work and I'm totally unfamiliar with it. All of my Linux code hacking has been either in WindowMaker or the kernel with the odd foray into X11.

So far...

I liked the previous version, so far I like this one, however I have noticed one problem: In relationships there is no option for spouse (husband/wife) and should be, at the moment i have them as parents of the children, the children are their child, but they are either other to each other or or aquantance. :S Even an option for significant other would be better. Or make it a free entry box.

Look under the file menu

There is a menu item "Relationships" that will open a dialog for defining relationships. Basically, you add a relationship and then specify which, if any, is the inverse of it.

I knew I forgot to document something in the help.

Comments and Suggestions

Joanne,

I'm tinkering with your package, and so far it seems to be solid and well done. I'm not sure what the limits on the program are, but as I'm using 'Amazon' as an initial test case I may find out ...

Two items for your consideration:

First, it would be helpful to have a 'hot-key' for adding a new location/character/whatever to minimize the hands-off-keyboard time.

Second, as I switch between the Windows and Linux world, I would encourage development of an implementation that will run in the penguin world. To that end I offer my own time, and such skill as I possess.

Thank you for the work you've already done.
