With hormone changes, has anyone experienced ...

any severe head-rushes when standing suddenly? I know my hormones are all messed up, but it's getting worse (I had my quarterly round of blood work), and in the past few weeks, if I stand suddenly, I get very light-headed. I've dropped like a stone once from nearly passing out, and occasionally, my limbs get tingly for a few moments. Has any one experienced this type of significant blood-pressure reduction when they were on Spiro to reduce male hormones? Or on E to supplement female hormones? Just to be clear, I am NOT on any hormones or Spiro. Spiro is mentioned only because it does what nature is doing to me - lowers T. My elevated E is a mystery, too, because I'm not on any hormones. I might have some kind of natural anti-androgen going on anyway the way my T has been behaving, and my body compensates apparently by increasing E. Since they fluctuate, I feel strange symptoms, like the light-headedness at times.

I'm trying to narrow down what might be causing this. Since it MIGHT be hormone-related, I figured someone who's gone through Spiro and E supplementation might have a clue or have experienced something similar, which would narrow down what I'm looking for.

Depends

For spiro, it only happens if your blood pressure is already low. So if you were say, 100 without then Spiro can lower blood pressure enough to be a problem. AFAIK, estradiol has no bearing on blood pressure going down.

I am naturally low in blood pressure right no so Spiro is definitely out for me right now.

Not on Spiro

I hope that I wasn't misleading. I'm not on Spiro; I'm looking for any correlation people have experienced between Low T and low BP. Or abnormal E (for a male) and low BP. I'm not on any kind of hormone therapy; if I were, it would be T replacement. Tried it years ago - the side effects really sucked. But now, with my T dropping even more (and at the same time, E going up), I might have to put up with some side effects to try to regain some type of balance that doesn't include head-rushes every time I stand up.

It was worse on Spiro,

But I still get dizzy if I nod my head much, as in doing laundry. Nor sure what causes it, but I suspect age is part of it. I have been to a doc, that was his idea.

Standing and dizzyness

Standing up quickly and getting light-headed/dizzy is one of the signs for dehydration. In fact, in the U.S. Army it is one of the tests that we use in the field to determine if our subordinates are drinking enough water.

No lack of fluid

I'm drinking 2.5 to 3 liters of water daily. As my son learned in scouts, the key is "clear and copious", and I meet those criteria. Definitely not dehydration.

Spiro is a diuretic and

Spiro is a diuretic and antihypertensive so hypotension or orthostatic hypotension doesn't surprise me. I'd want to check your blood and urine to see if you're dehydrated and do a check for postural hypotension which is what you're describing but I would want to see how much your pressure drops when you change position.

Ask your doctor

If he (or she) has access to one of those electronic recording heart or BP monitors. You wear it for several days then take it back to the doctor who can download the readings. You keep a log of things happening, when you go to sleep, when you rise, when you do physical activity, and when these spells occurr. They can look at the readings and see what was happening. In my case I had similar but more severe problems but my EKG always looked fine in the doctor's office. So she finally decided to have me do a stress test and in less than 2 minutes I was down on the floor. I don't even remember being lifted on the gurney. So please believe me on this, you need to have this checked immediately! Should it be your heart it will NOT get better with time. The sooner it is caught the easier it is to treat.

And who knows, it might be a simply adjusted hormone I balance. :-)

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.

Re: With hormone changes...

I have naturally low blood pressure, and being on Spiro has caused my BP to crash (resulting in blackouts I once thought were related to my partial seizures). I'm 34, and I often go through the day drinking coffee and caffeinated teas to keep my BP up. Even laying down, I often get a dizzy or spinning feeling if my BP gets too low. My doctor wanted to lower my Spiro from 100mg daily to only 50mg, and I obviously said no way, so that's why I do the caffeine thing now. Hope this helps

Actually Mister Elrod you

Actually Mister Elrod you might still be dehydrated. Are you getting electrolytes? I know when I would drink tons of water and stuff, if I wasn't getting enough electrolytes (which aren't typically foundin water) I'd still get dehydrated. Can you drink electro hydated water? Or gatorade/powerade? Both of those should help mew.

I know who I am, I am me, and I like me ^^

Electrolyte

I'd ask also are you taking any meds for hypertension and such. If not try drinking some Gatorade or its equivalent. I have to take inderal due to a medical problem unrelated to high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure. There are times, now that I think about it, that I become slightly dizzy or stumble.

Definately of spironolactone....

I have had light headedness multiple times with the spiro - after all, it was originally for high blood pressure and as such it does lower your blood pressure to take it. Standing up quickly can definitely result in being light headed.

I have not had any issues with headaches - cold and chills, depression, and sudden bouts of crying? Absolutely.

Headaches - no more than the usual due to sleep deprivation and stress - both work and personal.

Spiro

Spiro was originally a blood pressure medication. Dr Norman Spack says that Spiro is not effective. If you are sure about this, perhaps you could just send some sperm to a sperm bank and get an Orchectomy. Mine was $1000

Some Surgeons

Won't operate after an orchi, those doing the Suporn Procdeure. Something to consider for future plans.

Actually.....

I was originally put on it for borderline high blood pressure, but it has proven effects as an androgen blocker. Why do you think so many men had issues with performing while being treated for hypertension?

I have three doctors in the family - believe me I hear all about it.

Control group

As I fulfill none of the criteria of your ad hoc study I guess that makes me part of the control group. :) I am not on spiro, I have high blood pressure and I experience the same headrush occasionally when standing up quickly, mostly I can grab something and ride it out, sometimes I just have to sit back down and try again.

You can't choose your relatives but you can choose your family.

BP like a corpse.

Still I have gotten dizzy before getting up suddenly. Oh and elrodw if you decide to try the Electrolyte route know there are Clif Shots that are organic you can use in tandem with water.
