Amazon Mottos

Many moons ago, Heather Rose was kind enough to apply her talent to rendering a heraldic coat-of-arms for the Amazons. (2008??!! Egads!)

I've held it back for a couple of reasons. The last couple of years because I dropped into my emotional pit, but all along because I wanted to have a motto to complete the device.

I've climbed out of the hole enough to start trying to write again, and I feel I owe Heather Rose an effort to complete my part.

I've considered what sort of motto is appropriate and looked for historical examples.

I have a few ideas to put out for feedback, and anyone who wants to put their two cents in is welcome to comment.

Thanks all,

2008, that's barely over two years, tops!

Hell, I last posted a Timeout sometime that year.

As to mottos, is a link to the past most important as this is the resurrection of the Amazon nation OR is their core ethics more important? Mind you the BSA, that's Boy Scouts of America, not the Bank Secrecy Act, has two, Do a Good-turn Daily and Be Prepared.

Meœ memor originis or Mindful of my origin is historic as is the "ashes" one.

Veritate et justitiâ or With truth and justice probably fits the standard of ethics the new queen will insist on.

Perhaps follow the Boy Scout pattern, IE a slogan and a motto. So use say the "truth and justice" as their motto but have the "mindfull" or the "ashes " or the Non extinguar "I shall not be extinguished" as their solgan or visa versa. Proably the more defiant on on the shield but the more civic minded one as the popular slogan/public face of the new Amazon Nation. Is *that* flower in the heraldic shield? Hint hint.

No reference to Artimis in either or is the *oath* they take when transformed sufficient? Or is there a daily prayer/oath at the end or begining of each day to serve God, Artimis, their Queen and human kind?

So happy you are recovering.

Must be from being close to Wisconsin and the cheese fumes.

P.S. Any progress on the *modest* text I sent you?

Lets see...

Bushido is the code of honor of the Samurai, mainly expressed through the obedience to the Lord despite everything.
Omerta is the code of silence as expressed by the Mafia in Italy.
Sub Rosa is literally "Under the Rose" meaning, "to be kept quiet and held in confidence"
Modita is an euphemism for a bribe in Mexico.

So, "Obey the Lord, Keep your Mouth Shut, Hold things in confidence, and bribe your way out of everything."

I think that's a ROUGH translation of the motto.

De oppresso liber?

Puddintane's picture

It means "To liberate the oppressed."

Ad eundum quo nemo ante iit - To boldly go where no man has gone before.

Nemo me impune lacessit - No one attacks me with impunity.

Nemo surdior est quam is qui non audiet - No man is more deaf than he who will not hear.

Acta non verbo - Actions, not words.
Gesta non verba - Deeds, not words.
Facta non verba - Actions, not words.

In omnia paratus - Ready for anything.
Nunquam non paratus - Never unprepared.

Nulli expugnabilis hosti - Conquered by no enemy.

Quis separabit? - Who will separate us?

Princesses are useless

Hm... I like
Veritate et justitiâ
and
Ex seipso renascens

They should have something to ward away spoiled princess feminists...

Something like rights imply duties, or princesses are useless.

Or something general like: "for the betterment of humanity", "We shall not be corrupted"

Whatever, I hope you'll be back soon with an update.
