Is Story Site missing or gone away. I know that it was reported that the site was undergoing a reformat, but long gave up hope that it would revive. Now it seems to have disappeared. Anybody know anything?

Apparently their server is down.

This from Karen B. on the Message Board:

I think that it's the server, as it's not just Storysite that's down, GabyZone and Maddybell.com are also down and they are all hosted by Piper. Possible that the server has a problem or has been hacked, they've had that happen before.

just info

if you go to the Storysite mirror, you can still read the stories there. Many of the features don't work, and none of the updates they did before even that ceased show up, but the older stuff can be read.

Question: What's the URL ?

Stacy,

Thanks, but could you provide the URL ? I had it here somewhere (she said, digging through 4 feet of itty bitty pieces of paper with all her research notes), but I can't seem to find it. {sigh} I really don't know why I can't find it, it was right here!! {as she buries her head in the pile}

Thanks,
Beth

I think...

...these were the old mirror addies, but they don't seem to be working now. Perhaps there are others.

The addy for the mirror

that I used was http://www.storysite.org in CA I believe, and the other was http://www.storysitetwo.org which was on the other coast I think, which should have been Piper's, if I recall correctly. BTW, most of Piper's sites I have checked have all been down for a couple of days, so I am not sure what is happening there. She was just feeling like getting back to her writing. I hope the script kiddies have not invaded her stuff again.

edit......I just checked the mirror and it says it is gone also, so it may have been pulled at the same time or in sympathy, or at the owner's request.

Dunno if it'd help...

I do have a functional copy of 'www.maddybell.com'. I did that so I could reread things on my laptop rather than going back to the web site all the time.

If Maddy wants, I can load it to one of my unused domain names as a temporary fix.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I don't have

an actual copy of the site, but I do have most of her works saved off, and most of the pics she used, etc.

This is one generated by wget. I've used it for several sites, including a couple that were in risk of being shut down. When you read as much as I do, it's a lot easier on the bandwidth than reloading the web site repeatedly.

If anyone wanted to...

They could contact fdcservers.net - - and ask about it.

The server that storysite was hosted on used IP address 76.73.122.178, and is currently either down, or massively firewalled.

I'd suspect the server itself went boom.

If so, I can offer some hosting to people that might have lost it - if they have backups.

(Edited to remove phone number. Name left intact simply because it's insanely easy to look up anyway)

URLS and Hosting Stuff

Being massively curious, but hopelessly out of date, I ran some tests on the URL for storysite. For those so inclined, here's some of what I've found out. The IP 76.73.122.178 comes back without an echo, in fact nothing in the range (76...91-194) responds to my network tools, but they may be out of date. This may indicate a hardware issue with the actual hosting hardware.
`
At least we can hope.

For those interested in the owners/operators of the hosting site, use the WHOIS function at http://www.networksolutions.com for the Registrar's information.
`
For those totally bored by this, please disregard.

RAMI

Using the link below gets you to the homepage for storeysite. Most of the tabs do not work. However Cyberboard (on top) and search for a story
(on thr readers left) still work, at least as of last night.

Unfortunately, the Stories link is still not working, because it goes to the mirror.

You can find the stories here: http://www.storysite.org/storyindex.html

Dead links.

Alas, all links given by you do not work. Links to "mirrors" answer "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)". The link kindly given by Mr. Rami conducts to the answer "error 404".

Server is Back Up!

Piper's picture

Sorry, funds are tight this month so part of the outage was done to lack of me being able to pay on time. Add to that Comcast had to do major Hardware replacement and network maintenance on their trunk-line in Denver (where the server is located). So please don't piss off my colo center by calling them.
