I name this ship... any suggestions?

I will be away on holiday in Cornwall for just over a week from Friday, so I won't be doing any writing for a while. (Hooray, I hear you say). Thankfully, I have had my anti-Piskie shots, so I shouldn't catch anything more nasty than a hangover.

Anyway, I will be starting a new chapter of Changes soon and I would like to have suggestions regarding the name of Samantha's new boat/yacht/ship.

It will need a sense of taste and decorum as Dotty will be re-launching her with a bottle of Bollinger or two.

I may not be back for ages from my hols, as between you and me, I will be smuggling some cornish pasties out and may not make it back over the border.

Hugs

Sue

Would seem to be the obvious choice!

Or alternatively-

"Face The Wall"....my darling, while the gentlemen go by.....That recognises your smuggling activities!

Ship name

Well, how about "Sea Change"? Samantha's certainly been through one.

Seriously Bad Ju Ju

Renaming a ship is such bad luck! Seriously bad bad bad. Crew may be hard to find.
Like leaving a port on friday, you just do not do it.

Yup, what she said!

It wouldn't bother me personally, but sailors are a superstitious lot.

I'm not too sure about a warship name, unless she wants to arm it! Given a resurgence in piracy, that might not be the worst idea in the world, although I'd bet its rather difficult to get away with.

Registered vs documented vessels

Prolly the same as in the US-
A privately owned vessal if it is registered with the state it is just personal property like an automobile. If it is documented with the US Coast Guard, a number permanently afixed in the hull and the name on the hull then when traveling out of country and flying the US flag the vessal is treated as US property and entitled to more protection, details I do not know. So you would register with the state as "Leaky Tiki" or document with the Coasties as "SV Leaky Tiki" (SV-sailing vessel or MV motor vessel)

If it MUST be changed,

maybe a name like "Second Chances" in reference to herself and what the yacht had been used for?

I name this ship... any suggestions?

I feel that Samantha will keep the name Lady Olivia to honor the mother of their child, but put Mummy Dotty in charge as Captain.

to name a toy?

Titanic? Lusitania? Andrea Doria? Oceanna? LOL

It's a perfect setting for a minor disaster and some adventure. Not to mention sea sickness.

And Now for Something Entirely Different

Strange as it may sound, I play naval games. Rather than stick with the tried and true, I come up with my own names for ships. Below is a sample.

I can too:

Not Bad

I expect if the Tampon were a French ship of the line or frigate, the crew would have no need to worry about a royal navy warship coming up behind and subjecting the Tampon to a stern rake.

Classic Literary Name

Surprise. The boat was truly a surprise. Plus, it's a great literary ship name from the Patrick O'Brien Master and Commander series.

Boat names?

Well, we could say that "Phoenix" is far too well worn. "Gellir eu haileni" is perhaps too long. What about "Hail Britania"? Or "Nino". Or she could name it after her child or her wife? How about "newydd-anedig"?

One of my boats was named, "Nicole Shin Ae", and another "Marjory Lee".

There just has to be one that will fit exactly and when you find it, you will think that it fits perfectly.

Much peace

I suppose that

'Penmarris Princess' is a bit too lame? If we're feeling really silly we could try 'Cornish Patsy'.

In this modern world should we consider boy's names? Nah. I vote we ask Dotty; I'm sure that she could come up with something stupid/appropriate.

One final thought; how about the 'Pirates of Penzance' - or the 'Privates of Penmarris'.

These Cornish folk

can be a bit nationalist. Have you got your passport?

And don't forget; they have a definite afinity to the Breton people of North-West France.

Sue Brown? I suggest that you change your name to Tin(a) Miner.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

My vote is...

I think the boat should be named after the x-wife. Sam loved her and in the end she gave them their first child.
and it honors the child's heritage.

If you don't like my logic... there is always... "Money Bags" is always a popular name.

Dayna.

Kernow

I'd probably use 'Kernow' in the name somewhere, like Kernow Queen.
