It's been a stressful week

It never rains but it pours.

Latest thing is one of the recent discussions going on here, there are people on both sides angry at me.

I tried to do some improvements in how stories are organized here over the weekend, it was a lot of work and so far, complaints outnumber kudos.

Three dash lights came on in my car at once Wednesday night, I ended up trading it in for a newer car with only a slight rise in monthly costs.

The new computer I got last week has had problems and setting it up to use as my daily computer has taken a lot of time.

I had to cancel both a dentist's appointment and a vet's appointment last week and reschedule for this week and next.

Now the bank for the car loan wants me to come in and sign some papers.

Other projects, like putting together books for people and Hatbox donation premiums did not get any work done on them last week.

All trivial problems and annoyances, compared to things that could go wrong, but I'm tired and grumpy. Try to be good to me for a bit, okay?

Hugs,
Erin

Must be something in the air

Angharad's picture

I haven't had quite as many things go wrong, but typical was the lawn mower cord snapping yesterday. I played with it for two hours before deciding I couldn't repair the old one. Fitted a new one today and it did eventually fire up. Yesterday, as well we couldn't get the washing machine door to open - I had to play with that as well. My computer has played up, and the last straw was Bonzi having a punch up with a neighbours cat instead of coming in when I called him. He didn't come home until 1.00am, then he jauntily demanded his supper. Thankfully he still had all his body parts and as far as I could tell, they were in working order. Just to make my night, he then slept on my pile of clean ironing and left black hairs everywhere. Don't you just love 'em?

Erin, We All Have Bad Days

I for one appreciate what you have done here. I know that I have learned a lot here. You know that if you ask, that you have a platoon of friends that will trounce anything for you.

my previous week

1)One of my dogs got tapeworms and had the trots.
2)Oil light came in on truck and had no oil in it when they checked then after the oil change then the accelerator stuck because they put the air filter back on (luckily no damage)
3)Dropped my netbook on the floor and cracked the lcd screen. (repaired it my self luckily for $45.00).
4)My boss tells me I have seven weeks to get an application rewritten and off the mainframe or the state government is going to be billed an additional million dollars. (talk about pressure). I got the added benefit of no overtime allowed.
5)Tropical Storm Claudette came by for a visit.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

It's not a contest, fortunately

I know of lots of people much worse off than either of us. That wasn't the point of what I was saying.

Hugs,
Erin

Kudos

Kudos, Erin. I don't know if the organizational things had any thing to do with my comments about story pages or not, but either way I appreciate your efforts. I do know there is a lot more to running this place than meets the eye.

I give you the rest of the week off, OK?

Murphy's Law

I used to think I was born with Murphy's law in effect just for me. As I grew up I was declared to be unfit to do anything and that whatever I did would turn into a pile of crap. with all of that said I one day discovered I was doing those things because I actually believed I was no good at anything.

I have some neat accomplishments in my life. How manay people have actually signed there name in indelible ink on the top of the flag staff of the Leaning Tower of Piza?
Been over a cliff in a car and come out unscathed? Been in an explosion? been poisoned with chlorine gas and lived? Married twice and still see life as peaceful?

Erin, you do so much that often people don't see the good, they see something that disrupts their daily lliving pattern and complain.

I have no idea of what you did with the author thing, but I know it came out the way you wanted it to and yet somebody complained.

Kudo's to you for being you. I'd like to have ten percent of the computer knowledge you have, I'd feel like I was a computer geek. Those that come here for free and complain would complain about beef prices with a mouthful of free steak while wasting the rest of the beef.

One Good Thing

Hey Erin. I finished the 2007 Terry Awards. That's one good thing, isn't it?

Take it easy tonight. Pet your dog. Have some chocolate. Things will get better for you.

Stubbornly unable to be dissuaded,

Andrea Lena's picture

She nevertheless continued to call for everyone to give kudos to Erin, since she feels now, as she felt when she wrote her first comment hours ago, she's the best! Thanks ever so much from a depressed insecure person who has derived great meaning and joy with the help of you and your colleagues and all of you other wonderful people who dwell within! Mille grazie!

Sounds familiar

I guess we all have times where things just seem to turn to s**t. I could say "don't let it get you down", etc. etc. but it gets me down too.... but the tide always turns eventually. Much as I hate problems, even I have to admit that without them we'd probably all be bored to death. Strange but true. I think. Anyway.

As for people being mad on both sides, remember that old saying, goes something like: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time". ....? Substitute "please" for the word "fool". You just can't please everyone. Never gonna happen.

I think you do a great job here, Erin.

I hope things start going better for you soon, and for all the rest of you out there too.

Aye back in ma day it were tough... or maybe the nailing the feet to the floor one.. Thick Yorkshire accents I think.

It's all too easy to take this lot for granted, the site I mean. I have only the vaguest idea of what's involved in running such a thing. Just fiddling a font is probably my limit and even then I fear blowing up the place. We all probably have our own little likes and pet peeves or druthers as to what and how things should be and look and work and...

The mere fact it exists and Erin and others play sheepdog is a wonder and a gift. Thanks Erin and co. We'll do our best not to whinge at ya, well not too much anyway. Halleluja Chorus rises and makes everyone smile, or maybe Don't Worry Be Happy, whatever works.

Thanks fer all ya do huh.
