Can Anyone Help Me Find Tiffany Shar's Second Story?

I have been reading Tiffany Shar's story "Standing Up To Life" She posted a second part to it on Fictionmania but I can't get it. I had heard that someone here was able to get on FM again, but I think AT&T may be playing their games again. I can't get it to come up. Is it still down or are they just denying access? I think the second story was "Daring To Hope" but I am not sure. If anyone could help, I would be very grateful!

The Wayback Macine

If you search for Wayback Machine and Internet Archive, you'll find an archival database of most of the Internet.

Here it is if you're lazy, but remember the search and it's useful anywhere:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

There are two ways to use it:

1. Enter a web site address and you'll see a list of archive dates. Unfortunately, the only things archived under a given date are the things that changed from the last archive, so it's easy to find files seemingly missing. By stabbing around, it's possible (if tedious) to find every file. The search functions work, but only for the subset of stories available in that backup.

2. Search for a useful string using a global search. This *often* doesn't work, because it requires more processing power than they can afford. There is a mirror in Egypt which *sometimes* yields better results, depending on time of day.

I Tried That But....

I tried that, but there are no page listings for Fictionmania for the year 2008 on there. Thank you for trying anyway.

Fell off the edge...

They have a lengthy wait before backups become available, so the last active days of the site may have clipped the postings. The story was submitted to Storysite in the middle of 2008, but was not posted, probably because it was sent in an unusable state. Have you tried contacting Tiffany through Storysite?

Doesn't work

FM was set up so that it is not archived, the Wayback Machine has nothing on it except some entry pages. This was discussed on Storysite's Cyberboard awhile back.

FM not archived

Went back to the Cyberboard and found the link that explains why they don't archive FM.

We're sorry, access to http://fmstories.com has been blocked by the site owner via robots.txt.

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://fmstories.com

Note: fmstories.com is the name of the actual storage server. The pages pointing to a story may be found, but the stories themselves are not there on the archive.

What's the point of being on the Web if text isn't findable? Might as well have it in a bucket.

Book Two

Hi,

I've been getting a couple requests for information on book two over the last couple weeks. I've been hoping that FictionMania would come back up soon for me to redirect you and others to that site... but it's definitely working on a slower basis than I would like.

Part of why I have been so silent and not putting up book three already like I had hoped was because I've been diverted into working on a project of moving book one to print. It's been a fairly consuming process and it ate up all of my time in the early fall (when I had any spare time at all), and would have been completed already if not for the publisher (Lulu.com) sending it back to me after I thought it was a done deal. Because of that I've been procrastinating posting both books here until I can have a link to see if people would be interested in purchasing either a pdf version or a hardback edition of book one.

So here's my plan at the moment.... I'm hoping to have that fun all completed in three or four weeks and at that time I'll post both books to this site. Then hopefully by June I'll have book three available here, FM, Storysite(?), etc. Please be patient with me on this... I have a very busy schedule. If you send me your e-mail address I will send you an update when I get this completed. Thanks!

-Tiffany :-)

Still have the PDF version

Still have the PDF version you sent me of Book 1. Copy/pasted book 2 into a word document and made IT into a .lit file so I could read it when I wanted. I know you don't need copies Tiff, but if you want, I could make it available to others for download as an ebook.

Heck, you could too and do it as a paypal thing. "Purchase this book through this page for $3 and here's the ebook" and bypass lulu all together. If you wanted to.

But I won't send them out without your permission hon. Your intellectual property.

Oh, I've been waiting on tenderhooks for Book 3 too.

Standing up to Life

I have not read this story but as a result of the conversation going on here, I found that parts 1-6 seem to exist on storysite. Now I am curious. :)

Found a Link

Hi Again,

I decided just to search on Google and see if I could find a link somewhere to the FicitonMania page with book 2. I eventually did find a link, here it is:

http://www.fmstories.com/stories/tv/DaringtoHope.txt

About the releasing of the other pdf... I'm just going to wait until I can get it done the way I'm working on. Especially now that there are in fact places people may view both books. If anyone is interested in reading book one, that one is up on StorySite. Thanks to all of my readers, I really do appreciate that you are interested in reading what I write!

-Tiffany Shar :-)

Astonishinly nice story.

After stumbling into this conversation, I started reading what you have on Storysite. This is a very nice story. Thank you so much for writing it.

Many Blessings
