BC folks in SoCal particularly, good luck; please prepare and be cautious in the coming storm.

If SoCal didn't insist

On building Cliffside houses, things wouldn't be nearly as bad. Of course, everybody in the southern tier of states that live in mobile homes are teasing the gods that cause tornados. Karma has a way of getting her pound of flesh.

George Carlin

I hope every one and their property survives the storm.

Property and house prices are ridiculously high and the price of them and land is ludicrous, after all the land will be here well after we have gone and all our living relatives. I have paid for two houses, one my ex has and I have the other, my daughter will be quite wealthy when her parents have both gone. Yet there are people who can't afford to rent or buy which is an indictment of the way society is formed. There are loads who have several houses because they can afford it. Down here, second homes are a curse because they cause house prices beyond what young people can afford, especially those who live in Dorset. The same has happened in Devon and Cornwall and councils are at last doing things about it, like raising council tax. What they need is to stop anyone who wants to buy who isn't local to pay twice the asking price, and use the difference to fund social housing.

And to make it more interesting...

Mother Nature decided to throw in a 5+ earthquake near Ojai!

So much for the afternoon siesta I was enjoying while listening to the sound of the rain...

If I'm not mistaken...

If I'm not mistaken, Erin and Melanie E. live in a part of California which should be particularly impacted by Hilary, since it seems to be centered near the border with Nevada. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we got a little rain, unusual for August, and a high of 68° (Fahrenheit, about 20° C for the rest of the world), over ten degrees cooler than yesterday.

We all hope they’re Ok

Checking the map, Calimesa is maybe 5 miles from the area of San Bernardino County that was under an evacuation order, and maybe 3x that from the Forest Falls debris flow.
