Muskovitz the Spy

Printer-friendly version

Muskovitz the spy is a character I created for "Cosmic Charlie and the Apprentice Witch." He is actually from an old comedy album entitled "You Don't Have to be Jewish." The album was inspired by an ad campaign for Levy's Jewish Rye Bread that featured children of different ethnicities enjoying a slice of Levy's bread. The tagline was "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's." The recording is still available from Amazon.com

"Muskovitz the Spy" was one of the routines from the album. I won't spoil it for you by repeating it. If you can find the recording it is worth listening to.

Now Muskovitz the Spy as found in my stories is a secret agent for the State of Israel. His assignment is to monitor American news media such as television and radio and to read American newspapers, and make regular reports to the Israeli intelligence agency. Israel could probably get the same results by subscribing to American newspapers and watching satellite TV, but Muskovitz isn't stupid. He has a cushy job and likes the regular paycheck.

As a cover story, Muskovitz has a catering business, strictly Kosher. It is a very successful business and Muskovitz is very well off. He is available for weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and parties of all sorts.

The cover story is not nearly as successful as his business. Everyone in the neighborhood knows that Muskovitz is a spy.

Muskovitz the Spy

I too remember the album (an LP,33 1/3) "You don't have to be Jewish". It is refreshing to be reminded of it again.
I felt most of the routines on the album were very funny. Thanks for bringing it up.

Awww...

When I saw this, I thought I was gonna be reading about the same Mister Muskovitz mentioned in "The Bear Market". Would it be possible to get a link to "Cosmic Charlie and the Apprentice Witch"? Having heard about Mister Muskovitz, I'm really curious 'bout him now.

Muskovitz is only mentioned in my stories and not really developed. "Cosmic Charlie and the Apprentice Witch" appears in Big Closet under the title "Cosmic Charlie's Kitten Tale." Also, the "egg cream" routine from "You Don't Have to be Jewish" is quoted in the last episode of "The Academy."
