Hi there, BC family. Jamie here.

My health had been doing pretty well, all things considered, for a chunk of time. Things were relatively stable... until about 3 weeks ago when an old injury to my hip that we thought was stable became, well, unstable.

Essentially, there is a part of my femur that is dead after I dislocated my hip a few years ago. We were keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn't get worse, and it wasn't, so it wasn't a big deal in my mind. Just something to add to the list of things wrong with me. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head. After an appointment a few weeks ago, I was walking with my girlfriend back to the car, and my leg suddenly gave out on me. The pain was absolutely excruciating. One ER trip later, I find out that the damage to my bone is progressing, and if I don't stay off my leg and have surgery soon, I'm looking at a hip replacement.

And having a hip replacement at age 28 means having another hip replacement every 10 years from here on out, so I would like to avoid that...

The orthopaedist recommended a bunch of equipment to keep the muscles strong without putting any pressure on the bone, and the physical therapist wants me to have certain equipment available, and of course insurance in the US says none of it is necessary so they won't pay (don't let this post turn into a "bash the US healthcare system" post, we all know how bad it is). But I do need it.

And of course, I get told all this yesterday and am being discharged today. And I'm broke as fuck because I haven't been able to work any while I've been in here. At the very least, I need to pick up things to prevent skin breakdown, chux, various home health supplies and aids ASAP.

I'm looking at needing between $600-$1k as soon as is humanly possible.

I also have other ways of receiving money if some other way is preferable, just shoot me a message. I know a lot of you like PayPal.

I may not post on here very much, but know that I read almost every blog that passes through here, and I love knowing how important we are to so many of you. I'm honored to be a part of such a community. <3

No -- Thank You

A friend of mine gave away many, many millions of dollars through his newspaper column called Thanks a Million. We had several talks over lunch and dinners regarding what he did. He told me that he found immense joy in helping people. He said he enjoyed giving away his money more than he did making it. He started out in life without a dime and made his money manufacturing plastic bags and investing in Hollywood films. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_Ross

Every time I have a chance to help someone -- I do -- because 1.) it makes me feel good, and 2.) it is amazing how many charitable acts have resulted ultimately in something very nice happening to me. I'm in the middle of closing a deal that will make me financially set for life. It's coming together because about ten years ago I did something nice for someone -- with nothing in it for me.

So again, thank you! And - we've all been there. You just had the courage to ask for help.

I wish I knew your friend,

I wish I knew your friend, lol! I hate living paycheck to paycheck like this. The smallest thing messes everything up and can throw me homeless again at the drop of a pin.

I'm glad to hear of how well you are doing though. You deserve it ^_^
