As a published author on Amazon I find myself troubled that it is so easy for people to blatantly infringe copyright using the Amazon Platform.
As a publisher Amazon has a vested interest in protecting copyright, yet there is almost no way of raising the issue of copyright infringement.
Over on Fictionmania Message Board recent exchange started like this:
A message by trish on 02/03/2022: "Subject: My story ripped off Kindle, Morning everyone, Just a quick advisor to any authors seeing this to check out Suzie Wang's page on Kindle Store because if she's ripped off my Rock On story and published it under her own name then she's probably done it to others who publish on FM Has anyone any experience of Amazon's Copywrite infringement process as I've submitted a claim?"
Andrea DiMaggio replied on 02/03/2022: "A quick scan shows several titles which look familiar. Including Karen Elizabeth L.' s The Princess Project. What was that old saying? Imitation is the sincerest form of LARCENY?"
Ralphi replied on 02/03/2022: "Mary Beth Sanford's story Cissy Be The Clown has also been stolen. I'm guessing all Suzie Wang's stories are stolen. Unfortunately only the Copyright holder can submit a claim."
My response: "Actually, that is not entirely correct. The copyright holder is the only person who can pursue a civil suit but Amazon can and should be advised that they are a party to criminal copyright infringement. Once the facts are made known then both Amazon and the fraudulent "author" are wilfully infringing a copyright for the purposes of private financial gain. In my experience Amazon are too big and very slow to act, but the more people who complain about criminal behavior the more likely they are to act. Could all readers of this Board please send a message to Amazon? Maryanne"
Seriously, if we do not get out and hold the largest publisher on the planet to account, what is the use of copyright?
Do something, people.

But wait, just consider this...

I have already had a private message about the difficulty of getting material published because Amazon are worried about copyright issues.
This is a valid point.
For my part, Amazon should accept the declaration of copyright ownership and publish material presented to them, but they need to have a mechanism to receive notifications of breach and a protocol of how to deal with those issues fairly.
Amazon is huge, and will make its own rules the filthy peasants be damned, but we still need to point out crimes where we see them, don't we?

Thanks for the list

I downloaded 'Circumstance by Design' by Suzie Wang and quickly realised I'd read it before but I couldn't remember who the original author was. I should have guessed it was Joe Sixpack (one of my 'go to' writers) and I have on my HD.

I looked at another story post by Wang (probably His Transformation) and it had the hallmarks of Vickie Tern's unique style.

Stealing other's work is despicable and needs to be highlighted at every opportunity

I had a trademark claim against one book

One of my earlier books included a real sorority name in the title.
The sorority had a lawyer send a letter to Amazon.
Amazon didn't even check to see if the claim was true.
They took my book down and told me it would stay down unless the other party released their complaint.
i renamed the book and republished.
There was never any release. Amazon told me they didn't care what I had to say. If there was a dispute, they would take it down.

Send a formal cease and desist letter to Amazon and mention potential damages for supporting the sales. it'll come down.

the hoops i have to go through to publish my own works currently, i'm guessing these stolen works have been up some time, certainly before the current Amazon protocols were put in place.

In my experience, Amazon are very good, maybe even a bit over zealous when it comes to copyright infringement. If you spot a pirate, leave a revue to let others know with as much detail as possible included and of course contact Amazon. 'Suzi Wang' is obviously a serial offender and should be outed as such.
