Good 80's tribute movie with some original music that fit right in and was lovely.

I feel like what "Across the Universe" did as an homage to the Beetles and the 60/70's this does for 80's Rock in general.

GREAT stuff, seriously. It's on Netflix right now if anyone here wants to watch it. The background imagery wasn't exactly congruent with the 80's to me but I'm thinking of the U.S. so I can't really judge how Ireland looked. The costume design was spot on though and some of the cinematography was really great.
As someone who grew up, even as a child of the 80's, I definitely appreciated this love letter.

Absolutely Love Sing Street

For those unfamiliar with or not able to see the whole movie, here's the trailer:

Sing Street Trailer

What's wonderful about the movie (among the many wonderful things) is that the songs are authentically "period" in their construction, within the compressed year or so of the movie. The influences of British groups of the era, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, The Cure, The Clash and others, is also matched by Conor's changing hair and clothing style -- indicating his influence for that particular song style.

And I can't get "The Riddle of the Model" out of my head ...

We Are The Best!

I'm going to check it out. They also have a Swedish movie set in around 1980 called WE ARE THE BEST, about a couple of 13 year old girls who decide they're going to start a punk band; except they can't play a lick. It's only by befriending a shy friendless girl who can play pretty good guitar and try to convert her to the punk cause that they can produce anything even resembling music. A lot of the humor is very deadpan, coming from the fact they're so earnest and passionate in their rebellion, but endearingly naïve about just about everything; and that their music is awful even by punk standards. The friendships are what really make the movie worthwhile...
