Dear BigCloset readers,

I've recently posted some new stories to the site Tigger and I share. Go to www.tigger-n-brandy.net and follow the links.

Or . . . just wait a while. I'm trying to work out a way to get them posted here are BigCloset.

There's always the magic of cut and paste

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

Of course there's the need of formatting. That can be done off line. I format all my work in my word processor and simply cut and paste it into the text box,

If you've never done that, I'd be happy to do one for you so you can see how I do it. PM me if you're interested.

Formatting

Brandy Dewinter's picture

My stories are formatted as html. I start with word processor files (rtf) and develop that by replacing all paragraph marks with p-mark, break so that I get html line breaks everywhere I had a return. Then I do a cut-and-paste into the html file. That part is easy to reverse. I don't use tabs but some of the stories have italics and/or bold which are also embedded html commands. Unless I missed a few, I don't use 'smart' quotes or fractions or some of the other autoformat items.

But I also have embedded illustrations which are placed in appropriate directories on our site. So there is an html tag within the story file that points to the location for the illustration. Since Tigger's site is going away, it won't work to leave the tags as they are, so we need to know the directory of the new location (and file ID) for each illustration and move the illustrations to the appropriate directory.

I also use table formats, h-format (for chapter titles), colors, and chapter dividers which are non-standard for BigCloset. All that will need to be worked (or accepted as a different look for these stories).

I don't want to be a lot of trouble, but there is a bit of plug-and-chug to do, and it requires some knowledge of how files are stored (directory structure) on BigCloset.

Thanks for the offer, and if Erin gets it to a fairly straightforward path to migrate the files, then she (we) may call on you.

That makes it simple

You should be able to simply cut and paste your RTF file into the text box here under "Add a story".

Retaining Illustrations

Brandy Dewinter's picture

If all I wanted to do was post the story files, from rtf, it would be easy. The illustrations are the challenge. But I like them and consider them integral part of the stories. Nonetheless, it will be up to Erin on how she wants to proceed.

You can't link illustrations to offsite storage on BC. Caused too many problems. But you can upload a metric ass-ton of illos onto BC's server, and if you do run out of room in your allocated directory, just ask and I have three more levels of storage available. :)

Erin

Sounds like there's a path forward. I was mostly just responding to comments rather than trying to resolve things now. But after Christmas we'll work something out.

Looking at your source code

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

The only thing that would need changing would be the illustration source.

It can be a bit tedious but it can be done. You don't have a ton of illustrations in each story.

new stories

i check tigger&brandy daily. i noticed when you added the new pics to nightwind and then to patience. i had been hoping this meant you were still available and might have a new tale in the works. imagine my surprise to find not one or two, but six new works. thank you so much. sorry to hear that your shared site is going away soon. there are some fine tales there.
