My Muse issued another 4 hour challenge
A four hour challenge is a form of improvisation. The goal sometimes is to work through a writer's block and overcome one's distraction.
Anyone can do it. Like getting into shape, you can't start off by running a four minute mile.
A four hour challenge is like a wind sprint. I not expecting Coleridge or Dickens to issue forth out of me. What I am trying to achieve is to flex my brain into brainstorming and letting the creative juices flow more freely.
I used to do this a few years back, but dropped it because I assumed I didn't need to do it anymore.
But, in reading some stories being published recently, I recognized the techniques the author was using to write. I had been rather OCD on my stories of late by making sure every thread was tied together. That is a good thing. Working hard on a story to make it better is good thing for an author to do. The intimacy a chapter story has brought me has been some of the greatest joys I have had as a writer.
But, writing for sheer pleasure is also important. A four hour challenge is a walk in a park where I can just enjoy the flowers, the pond, kids playing on a swing set, seeing lovers stroll, etc. A chapter story is a vacation with someone I love. I walk in the park is a chance to breath unfettered by my current engagements and obligations.
So, before I return to Take Me Out of the Ballgame, Like with Enigma in a Dress, I am going for another casual stroll in the park today.
I just selected the title. So, you'll see Quip and Quible later today. I hope you like it.
Have a great day!
