The Petulant Muse

So I was trying to write, and my muse was giving me fits. So instead of writing what I was intending this little scenario popped into my head and I thought it was too funny not to share. It only took about ten minutes to type out. Hope you enjoy.~ Rebecca Jane

Fighting the Homm: part 10

Chapter nineteen: A squadron of Homm

After the experience of the attack on Elaria Odyssa was quite sure there would be another attempt of some sort. After Circe had recharged herself asleep in Odyssa’s arms she had cloaked the remaining ships, so that no one approaching could sense them one way or another. The ships remained close to the raided base and the ships Odyssa had wasted. LaSaDa rested on the Deara, as Odyssa had planned the same tactics as last time, if a force of Homm should come to investigate and possibly find some slaves. They’d go empty here, hopefully they would not attack Taka’s city first, but since there had been no Homm there and no slaves either, she hoped her trap would work. Noticing Homm approach, she would use the portal again to hide inside the damaged ship and then attack the Homm from there, once they had landed and got out of their ships. As soon as she had disabled a number of them, all ships would let loose on the remaining force with everything they had at full blast, while Odyssa would add her own fire from ground level.

Hatbox funds still needed

Piper has been working hard, no joke, on upgrading hardware and software and tracking down problems. We've also been paying ourselves half wages this month (except me, I got a rock) to save money for emergencies and bills that can't wait. The month is half gone and we are about half way to our goal.

If you can give a bit, it will be appreciated.

The Job 38

CHAPTER 28
I had turned up at the Crown Court for that final day, all five having eventually folded at their Plea and Direction Hearing, and as the crimes were not just indictable to the higher court but appalling in their very nature, there was no messing about with magistrates and hierarchies. We walked in, dressed in our best civilian clothes, as befitted our new (for some of us) and officially recognised status as DC rather than PC. Sammy outlined the facts of the case, four men stood up behind their publicly-funded representative and said the G-word, and the reports that had already been prepared and read by the judge were properly taken into account as he delivered fifteen years to each of them.

Garrus hummed, still focused on each other’s ministrations.

“As much as I’d love to, I’m not sure either of us can lift the other, at the moment.“

A hint of sarcasm shone through Garrus’ humor.

“I'm afraid I’ve got to ask you to…“ he harrumphed “… step down.“

Shakedown

Shakedown

The Ace-High Lounge was in its early evening lull, between the “I’ll just stop off for a quick drink on the way home” crowd and the “Let’s go out tonight and have a few drinks” crowd. A few people were scattered here and there through the room, trying to decide which group they wanted to be in.

A beefy man, about forty, in a police uniform, walked in and headed quietly over to the bar. “Your boss around?” he asked the bartender.

“In the office,” the bartender said. “You want I should get him?”

The Last of the Fey

by Denise Anesidora Trask

Dennis is a stunt man, er... boy, er... young adult. Being of slight build, although muscular, he didn’t get into sports when in middle and high school. No, he was far too deeply involved in the motion picture business by then. It all began when he was less than a year old and snowballed from there.

Forgotten: Chapter 10

There was simply too much going through my head to go back to sleep, so I stayed up. My name, my true name, was, if those figures could be trusted, Jamie. It wasn’t that bad of a name, so that was good. But still, those figures, they screamed it out in anger and pain. What happened? What did I do? Most importantly, what was the Dark Place? The last time, I assumed that I was dreaming, and that place was a representation of my mind. Now, I was sure that I wasn’t dreaming. This raised the question: if I wasn’t dreaming, then what was I doing?

Parents' Day

Andy took a deep breath as he stepped through the front door of the imposing building. He’d never before done anything even remotely like he was about to, and didn’t mind admitting to himself how nervous he was, even if he tried his best not to show it as he approached the reception desk.

“Can I help you?” The receptionist- a slender woman in her early twenties- asked.

“Hi,” Andy replied. “I’m- I’m Andrew Moore, I’m here for the interview today?”

“Okay,” the receptionist replied. “Do you know who you’re here to see?”

Time on My Hands Chapter 6 - A Roman Companion

Chapter 6: 195 CE: A Roman Companion

Raben returned to the tabernae then headed to a bed in the men’s dormitory. The men in the drinking hall exchanged looks of mystification.

The next morning Raben ate a bit of bread and cheese in the tabernae then headed over to the centurion’s home. The new mother was awake cuddling her newborn. After checking mother and child he pronounced both were doing well. He also went over the mother’s restrictions concerning bed rest and lifting restrictions as well as again cautioning her to wait a full day after taking the mandrake potion before nursing.

At the infirmary the medicus warmly greeted Raben. While older than the young healer the military doctor recognized the youth’s obvious skill. Together they checked on the three soldiers who had been severely injured and then skillfully treated. The trio were allowed to get out of bed and move about the fort but were cautioned to take things easy and to spend a week sleeping in the infirmary.

Centurion Didius entered the infirmary as the bandaged trio exited giving them a withering gaze as he did so. “Well Raben, has their prognosis changed?”

Take Two Girls - Part 1

[at a Student House in South Leeds]

"Fuck shit and double fuck," exclaimed the attractive young woman as she stormed into the sitting room of her house.

"What's up dude?" asked another of the occupants who was clearly 'high' after consuming his third joint of the day.

"Yeah, why the swearing Luce?" asked the third member of their household who was pouring over a laptop computer.

"I called home to wish my Mother a happy birthday only to find out that my frigging father is throwing a huge party in the summer for his fucking fiftieth birthday. It's going to happen during 'Cowes Week'."

Sanity is... often defined by our actions. [1.9]

8-seater fixedpic.jpg

When it comes down to it, sanity can often be found in the strangest of places and situations, if we need it desperately enough... in my experience at least.

Sometimes it can just take being put, reluctantly, back into your element to bring on clarity and a sense of purpose properly at long last.

Events unfold including but not limited to:
Hannah breaking some windows to get attention,
John using his magic effectively without casting a single spell,
And a Jeep needing to have its windows opened quickly!

Rodford Edmiston

"Those of us who attended the teleconference decided on multiple approaches to deal with the revelations from those documents Blackpool provided," said Aaron, as the trio prepared supper. "That approach being necessary because we still don't know what any of the goals actually are, beyond 'turn more people against the empowered.'"

Chapter 48
Troubling spirits, a ceremony, & a meeting.

As we entered the barbecue area, it looked the same. The barbecues, cooking the meat and other things. The tables. A space for the dancers. There was a singer, a drummer, and a flute player already there playing. I don’t know why, but I felt at home. But something wasn’t right. But what?

TG Techie: Chapter 27: Coffee

Coffee

I sat outside on the porch. Hair only a tiny bit up, in a hair band, skirt, and t-shirt. I looked like looking nice was a habit. Like this was just what I wore when I was going out. Nothing special. Don’t infer anything from the way I look. We’re two friends meeting up and no one expects a thing.

At least I hoped.

Chapter 4 - Price

“Jordan, perhaps you can elucidate to the class how the emergence of powered individuals has disturbed the foundation and premise of the law and structure of the United States?”

Rabbi Kirov was picking on me again. When I had picked up my schedule I’d discovered he had wedged his own class onto the list: The Ethics of Super-powered Beings. Now we were at the end of the second week and he already had established to everyone that I was some sort of teacher’s pet. He kept selecting me non-stop to answer questions or to reiterate the passages in the assigned reading texts. It had gotten out of hand, and I was so going to yell at him at our private magic practice session come Monday.
