Duty, Honor, Country, Family - Part 14

“No. The Japanese are now going to run the Swan Song show,” FBI Director Robert Mueller began to explain. “They have begun training for the arrest phase of the operation.”

“Then what are my duties now?”

“Grant, you are still to oversee the American aspect of the operation. We will want to debrief Agent Ripley when his mission is concluded. That is assuming he survives it.”

“Then we’re to bring Ripley out alive?”

“Yes, Grant. Agent Ripley is to be retrieved alive if at all possible. You are to make sure of that.”

“Yes, Hiromi-kun, it is, but circumstances have changed,” Tokuro Inagawa said, before going on to detail how difficult the economy was at present. Many other commodity prices were dropping. Weren’t illegal narcotics also a commodity?

Tom refused to budge an inch. Truthfully, she’d give it away to the Inagawas or whoever first showed up at the Yokohama docks when the cargo was unloaded. Naturally, that wasn’t the way organized crime worked and if Tom actually attempted what she dreamed of doing, she would end up just as dead as Reina Shimizu.

The Mystery of the Missing Frocks

bridget_mod_face.jpg       Everything a great crime mystery should have: romance, a detective and a road chase - except that this is no "Love Story", "Sherlock Holmes" or "Bullit" and there certainly isn't a great crime. Follow our intrepid narrator as he falls in love with a girl in London, becomes a woman in Seacombe, then on to modeling in a West End fashion house and, in a "Not The Thirty-Nine Steps" finale, to the Scottish Highlands to uncover…

Feels Strange

As we say good night, I notice that she is wearing a new necklace. I don't know why I hadn't noticed it earlier. I guess that I am not all that observant at times. Anyway the necklace looks disturbingly familiar. Hanging from a delicate gold chain around her neck is a gold colored charm in the shape of a running shoe.

As I look at it, she says “It reminds me of you,”

and winks at me before heading inside.

The Unicorn's Gift - Part 12

Things of lasting value,
always rare, too few,
seldom found among those
that people say are true.

In all these many lands,
for a thousand lives of men,
we all have this in common
It lives in every ken.

Naught there is of value,
is had without a cost.
All truth is dearly purchased
or its value soon is lost.

“You are right Marla, but he's much better than most men so cut him some slack,” Mom replies. “We don’t have time right now to settle scores. Why don’t you go warm up the register so we can ring things up as we make our selections?”

There is that time issue again. What is up with that? I know better than to ask as the only answer that I am likely to get is I’ll find out later.

Chapter 2:  Confusion

Altered Fates- The Missing Episode of The Fugitive

Richard Kimble immediately saw he had made a mistake. The street was a dead end, or rather a cul-de-sac with homes on all sides. He knew he was finished. Then he heard a voice.

"In here, quick!" said a woman from a nearby doorway. With little other choice, Kimble ran into the house. The two police officers ran by the dead end street.

Kimble stood in the foyer of the house catching his breath. Then he looked up and saw a familiar face.

"Hello, Richard," said Claire Mathews. "It's been a long time."

The Great Shift- Breaking News Part 1

"Good afternoon and welcome to this special edition of WHO's weekend news. My name is Jeanette Crowder," I started, beginning the broadcast with a warm smile hardly befitting the chaos that seemed to have been let loose on the planet that day.

"Today, at approximately 10:58 a.m. Iowa time, an event took place that has altered almost all of mankind," I said, reading off the teleprompter. "What some people have begun calling The Great Shift has migrated souls from one person to another person. This was a totally random and still unexplained event."

Mystery on the Beach

The second in this series is a variation on that theme and viewed from a different perspective. Our little tale once again concerns eleven year old Tony, who is continuing a holiday with his older girl cousin and favorite aunt. The children go to spend a week at a large modern house along the beach when our hero's cousin is given a holiday job by the lady owner. Unfortunately for Tony, he had previously upset the lady so the only way he can accompany his cousin is to go in disguise, as a girl....

“Agent Ripley, did you ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?” an occupant of Firecracker Four called out over a loud speaker. “Agent Ripley......”

The Hiromi Sato persona had no recollection of the Operation Swan Song recognition code. Hiromi bided her time as the Firecracker cars continued their slow approach.

Once again, Tom Slater tried to crawl out underneath the weight of the Hiromi Sato persona. The woman was again too strong. Hiromi Sato was just too determined to defeat all those she regarded as her enemy.

Chuck then took a moment to speak again. “Who is Agent Ripley, and what’s this Poughkeepsie shit?”

Petticoat Detective Squad Adventures - The Mystery of the Girl in the Ga

Welcome

to the

Petticoat Detective Squad Adventures

This page is dedicated to Andrea, an author with an uncommon talent. She has penned a series of children's adventure stories in the style of Nancy Drew or The Famous Five, all revolving around a similar theme. In those stories, that theme was usually about the child, or children, confronting adversity and triumphing in the end... and so it is with The Petticoat Detective Squad.

Alas, these are all there are in the series, and there can be no more. Andrea was taken from among us. We will miss her great talent and her gentle spirit as exhibited in these elegant tales of naiveté and wonder.

These stories are posted with permission. All stories  © 1998 - 1999 Daphne, all rights reserved. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to know more about Andrea, or the Petticoat Detective Squad. These stories are presented just as they first appeared on "Daphne's Secret Garden." I have not changed anything except some minor HTML coding in order to get each story onto a single page.

These stories are written to depict a young boy's first innocent encounters with cross-dressing and his subsequent feelings. If the reader is seeking descriptions of explicit or adult sex then they will be disappointed because this sort of thing is not included here.

Return with me to the age of innocence and as a child, thrill in the mystery and adventure, as Andrea's stories come to life on these pages.

The Mystery of the Girl in the Garden

This tale concerns a young boy spending a holiday with his older girl cousin and favorite aunt. The children become obsessed with the mystery of the figure of a lonely girl who regularly appears in the garden of a nearby manor house. When our hero's cousin and a small group of school friends are invited to spend a couple of days staying at the manor to work on a school project, she is presented with the perfect opportunity to solve the mystery. To make her plan work, however, she must enlist her cousin's help and get him included in the party. The only problem is that the party must consist of girls only...

Alister Juniper had experienced more than his share of terrible things in his young life, just as had any of those crammed into the poor quarters of the city. But then a fancy gentlemen found him, offering insight into his past and maybe a key to his future.

Forever Friends

It was amazing how one simple question could bring back so many memories. Some of those memories were heartwarming and others were frightening, but they all came rushing back when Ricki innocently asked that one simple question.

"So, Letti, how did you and Meg meet?"

Duty, Honor, Country, Family - Part 9

Tomatsu Ichikawa stopped looking at the glass in front of him and studied Hiromi Sato instead. He was fifty years old give or take a few years, and had a pockmarked face. A lit cigarette dangled from the man’s lips.

“Sato-san, how do you like my club?”

“It’s a club.”

Tomatsu grinned. “You would fit in well here.”

“I’m here to talk business.”

“So am I, Sato-san. If my bosses knew you were here....”

“That’s....” Chuck began to say before he felt the building below his feet begin to move. The shaking lasted only a few seconds. “We just had an earthquake.”

“Yes, we certainly did,” Hiromi replied,“but it wasn’t anything to worry about. We have small temblors like that all the time.”

This was the third earthquake Charles McBride had endured since coming to live in Japan, and he wasn’t nearly as jaded by them as his fiancée seemed to be. “I won’t miss those things.”

The Unicorn's Gift - Part 6

The struggle makes us stronger
As we pass through life’s travail
And all without our knowing,
if we live, or if we fail.

We face the pain and strife,
that threaten to divide us.
To our surprise we find,
a strength that burns inside us.

So tempered, by the flame.
And, forged like steel or iron.
We find within ourselves,
The courage of a lion.

Note to Kenny

“What the hell...?”

He knew that he hadn’t seen that piece of paper before, and it hadn’t been in his locker when he closed it up the previous afternoon. Someone had shoved it between the venting slats after he left the previous day or before he arrived that morning.

What Maisie Knew: 45. The Low Profile Returns

Our two visitors started shifting anxiously in their seats. I couldn't imagine what was on their minds.

"Uh, one reason we came over—"

"...if you don't mind..."

What Maisie Knew: 44. Misty's Christmas Gift

In the late Christmas afternoon I was in my room, sitting in a chair, hugging my knees and feeling glad to be clean and warm, when I heard two women talking outside. It sounded like friendly banter, but it never stopped or let up. I figured that the two were walking slowly, but they never seemed to move on. And they didn't quit jabbering for an instant. Finally, out of curiosity, I looked out the window.

What Maisie Knew: 43. Unexpected Dismay

The old story of the scorpion and the frog came to mind. Maisie would be the scorpion... striking out at people is part of her nature. Maybe someday she could heal and change. Maybe. In a way, it didn't matter, because I knew that from now on, at least a part of me would always have an eye on her, ever vigilant. I'd been stung already, and I wasn't going to get stung again.

What Maisie Knew: A Marcie Donner Story, by Kaleigh Way

What Maisie Knew: 42. Maisie's Other Hell

"Talk to her?" Maisie laughed. "Are you kidding? Are you out of your mind? Her brother tries to kill you, and you want to talk to her? What is there to talk about?"

What Maisie Knew: 41. Misty's Big Day

I sat down on a tree stump, away from the action. My cell phone battery was dead, and I still hadn't called my parents. And I was cold. Really cold. So cold that I wasn't trembling anymore. My energy was utterly depleted.

A police detective approached me, a woman, and she asked, "Is anybody helping you? Are you okay?"

What Maisie Knew: A Marcie Donner Story, by Kaleigh Way

What Maisie Knew: 40. Don't Let Me Die In These Clothes

"Misty," I said, as calmly as I could, "can you smell me?"

"Smell you? Yes, of course I can smell you. You really need a bath."

What Maisie Knew: A Marcie Donner Story, by Kaleigh Way

What Maisie Knew: 38. Nowhere To Go But Up

Grabbing one of the boards with both hands, I climbed and got both my feet up on the wall. Straddling the board, and hanging like a spider, I pulled with all my might. Nothing happened. I tried a series of tugs, but still nothing. There was no "give" and no hope that I could get a board loose.

I got back down and after a few deep breaths I gave the lowest board the mightiest kick I had...

What Maisie Knew: 37. She Wishes For More Hygenic Kidnappers

No doubt my uniform stank of smoke and was dirty from rolling around in the filth back here. Couldn't they have cleaned the vans before they abducted me? I wished I had a change of clothes. I wished I'd had a little warning! If I knew I was going to be kidnapped, I would have worn jeans, for one thing.

Ignoring his comment I asked, “What about my things? You know, my equipment? And I left my purse on a table in the club.”
