Fan meeting

Author's note: Just a little bit of fun to get me back to writing again. Let me know what you think

It had been a long day at work, and I was getting ready to go home when I heard the noise.

Whoosh ... thunk. Woosh .... thunk.

I knew that noise.

It was a sound effect on my favorite tv shows of all time, Dr. Who.

I followed the sound, and there, in the corner of the lunch room beside the Coke machine, was the Doctor’s time machine, the Tardis.

I stared at the thing for a while, and then the door opened, and out came the latest incarnation of the Doctor, saying “Just a moment, going to do a quick tour, find out where we are.”

“Hi.”

He looked up, startled, and then said, “Oh. Hello.”

“Neat trick with the Tardis. Is this some kind of promotion for the new season?”

“New .... season?”

“You ... arent an actor, are you? You’re .. really him. The Doctor.”

“Yes, yes I am. And your name is ... Dorothy, according to your name tag.”

“That’s right.”

“Well, Dorothy. Could I trouble you to tell me where I am?”

“Well, you’re in a Wal Mart just outside of Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and its 2012, if you need to know the year.”

“Ah. Well, that helped a great deal, thank you. I better go, I promised Amy and Rory I would take them to see Julius Ceasar.”

“Well. have fun then.”

He went to leave, and then turned back.

“You said, Edmonton? Canada? And your name is Dorothy?”

“That’s right.”

“Well, that’s brilliant!! I’ve read your novels. I’m ... rather a fan, nice to meet you in person.”

“Novels? I’ve only written one.”

“Yet.” he said, and went back inside his machine, which vanished.

“Well, its always good to meet a fan, I guess.” I said, and got my stuff together so I could go home.

Doctor... huh?

Okay who is this Doctor Who and what is significant about it?

Dr. Who comes in several iterations from many years ago from across the pond in an eastwardly direction. Check Wikipedia.

Portia

fezzes are cool?

not really, but I could make a case for his bow tie, anyway ...

Fan meeting

Thanks Dorothy! I am a Doctor Who fan and enjoy all of the Doctor Who fanfics. This is a real cute story, just right for giving one a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Cute Dottie!

Nice little tale to flex your writing muscles on. Now get back to the keyboard, Jaci's waiting and I just got a full bag of kettle popcorn! Lol (Hugs) Taarpa

Thanks hon.

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Stuff

Funny little fictional encounter with a nice twist. But what's strange is that my $10 Wal-Mart coffee maker
makes that very same wheezy rhythmic groaning sound. I leap out of bed every morning when I hear it
and run to the window hoping my Raggedy Doctor has returned at last ..... but alas.
Oh well, at least there's coffee ready.

being "the girl who waited"

can be a hard job.

Hugs, and thanks for the comment.

Hmm...

That was a bit irresponsible of The Doctor. You told him quite clearly what year it was. He should not have alluded to the possibility that you will write more novels in the future, lest he inadvertently change the course of history.

On the other hand, perhaps it was his interference that actually caused you to write these extra novels in the future? The Doctor has inadvertently been the cause of several significant events in history. For example:
The Great Fire of London (The Visitation, 1982)
The Genocide of the Dinosaurs (Earthshock, 1982)
The beginning of all life on Earth, or a least the prevention of the prevention of -double negative there- (City of Death, 1979)
Inspiring Herbert George Wells to write science fiction, and in particular, about a time machine (Timelash, 1985)
I could go on...

Catfolk Pride.PNG

making history?

The Doctor has "helped" events along before, all right.

Fez's ARE cool, they look great on those organ grinder monkeys

Or on sinister guys in mummy horror films.

Remember the Doctor is always meant to look/dress a bit odd. He is a space alien after all.

BTW If I recall correctly the Doctor caused the Great Fire of London MORE than one time.

The curse of time travel and sometimes sloppy script writers.

Hey, I think Atlantis was distroyed THREE times.

John in Wauwatosa

P.S. Cute short story.

Put your mind at ease, proof

Put your mind at ease, proof there is only one amazing novelist in Edmonton named Dorothy. Great fun. Smiles, Jenn.

thanks so much hon.

You do realize, that now that

You do realize, that now that you have met him, and will be famous, he is likely to show up at a future (or past) date and somehow involve you in one of his adventures...

As an aside, the first episode would have made so much more sense if they were Cybermen, not Daleks.

thanks, Valentine

I'd love to be his companion on an adventure

Thanks for the comment.

Wisdom of Time

Teek's picture

The Doctor is full of wisdom. If he says you wrote several novels and they were good enough that he is a big fan, the it happened / is happening / will happen (okay this is almost as hard as coming up with the correct pronoun for a transitioning character in a story).

Great little tale. Thanks

Keep Smiling, Keep Writing

thanks, Teekabell

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
