Back-to-School Assignment 2009

My Report, How I Spent my Summer

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

My first day at Park Side Elementary School, my teacher, Ms Midler has given us our homework assignment for the weekend, an essay or short story, truth or fiction, on what we did this summer.

I don’t think she will believe this one but she did say it could be truth or fiction.

What I Did on My Summer Vacation - BigCloset Back-to-School Challenge

Well, it's that time of year -- time for teachers to demand a report on summer activities, at least, it's traditional in North America to do so. So, here's the deal, a contest that isn't a contest.

Living in a rural area has it's good points as well as it's bad ones. The good points are the peace and quiet and the slower pace. The bad points are that in a small community everyone knows your business. I found myself sitting there in Ms. Winslow's English class thinking about the ways my life had changed over the Summer months. She had given us an assignment to write an essay entitled "What I Did Over My Summer Vacation" As I sat there, my mind went back to that Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.....

A French Twist

A French Twist

Mom went back for her own plate and we started in. Before long, she sat down, smiling at us mischievously.

“I have great news!”

“What’s that, Mom?” Carly playfully challenged her through a mouthful of garlic bread.

“We’re going to Paris for the last two weeks of July!”

Mom clapped her hands together and beamed across the table. Carly and I went silent. I stared at Mom as I digested the news, my fork frozen on its way to my mouth.

“Well, don’t all cheer at once!” She gibed, as her furrowing brow betrayed a taint of hurt.

Dear educators and fellow students, a reminder, our assignment states that our stories may be fiction or real, it is up to you to judge.

What I learned during my Summer Vacation

What I learned during my Summer Vacation

It started like the usual summer fare; glad to be out of school for the summer, just hanging around with friends, the usual Summer Vacation stuff. I was luxuriating in the feeling of being away from school and not having to learn anything. Then I heard my Uncle Dave had tried to kill himself over the Fourth of July holiday; almost succeeded, too, but he, or should I say, she is doing better now and I will be referring to her in the feminine from this point on since she is my Aunt Dawn now.

How I can't really say I spent my summer.

There’s less than a week, now, until school starts at my new high school. I do hope I don’t have to write up a “What I did on my summer vacation” essay. That would be totally embarrassing, and not a good intro to a new school.

A Fine Summer Day

A Fine Summer Day

by Andrea Lena DiMaggio

She woke up early, excited about the day. She turned over in bed and was greeted by a warm, welcoming kiss from her love, which made her think twice, but only briefly before rising for the day. She got up, went to her dresser, found everything in order and put on her favorite lingerie. After putting on her hose, she walked to her closet to find her favorite outfit, the charcoal silk full skirted dress, which went oh so well with the charcoal grey pumps. After putting it on she walked to her vanity and sat down and applied her makeup, making her feel so lovely and attractive. Her love came to her with a nice cup of tea and placed it on the vanity, freeing them both for another warm embrace and kiss.

The Summer Job

The Summer Job
a short story by Tanya Allan

Max is a 16 year old boy who thinks he's worked out a foolproof plan as to how he can be Maxine for much of the summer.

Well, he didn't factor in the fact that his parents weren't fools, and actually, deep down, he needed to be exposed.

But at what cost?
