My sister in law had to put down one of her cats today. Needless to say, we're all sad here.

Sad day it’s always crushing when A four legged family member has to be put to sleep

My heart goes out to you your sister-in-law and her family

It Breaks My Heart

We've had to put down many of our closest non-human (I'm not sure that is correct) friends; some that we've shared our lives with for nearly 20 years. I've shed tears too many times, and writing this just brings more. They were truer friends than many relatives. Their love was unconditional. They allowed us to share our homes with them. They did their best to help us understand them. They talked to us with their wonderful vocabulary, and we were able to figure a lot of it out. They did their best. We'll never get over losing any of them. The last cats we will have will outlive us.

Loss of Pets is Always hard

Hopefully your sister in law can take some solace in the "Rainbow Bridge". It's been around for some time now:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Be storng, think of all the good times you had

Losing a pet is like losing a family member because they are. I have done this several times, holding and petting them as they go to sleep.
As I write this, I'm tearing up myself.

I know the feeling well

Five years ago, I lost a wonderful dog that was part Dachshund hound and part Beagle. She had the most wonderful temperament and loved children. You could put hundred children around her and she would just stand still and let each and every one of them pet her. So, I do understand how you feel.

However, just remember that as long as you remember and keep them in your heart, they will never be gone from you.

Sorry to here

this as our pets are often closer to us than our family and they leave a big gap in our lives.
