I am 60 credits richer than I was this time last year, just need the other 300 to finish the job.Sadly this means I have to pay my fees for next year which compared to most uni fees is modest, but then the Open University is the place for autodidacts, so we get much less in return in regard to teaching. Oh well, only 5 more years to go, good job I'm such a youngster.

Just think, you'll have that degree before the wheelchair.

In the spring when the chickens come out, I expect to see you youngsters studying hard. It's never to late for on-line university, saves all that walking. (^J^)
60 credits ? How many courses did you take ? When I was falling asleep in the 300 seat lecture halls, we got 8 to 10 each semester.

Congratulations!

Well done, girl!

I'm curious, though. Three hundred sixty credits? I can't remember how many credit hours I needed for my MS. I think it was around 36, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking my PhD was more ... maybe 60 - plus my dissertation which took two years. So, from Bachelors to Doctorate was less than 200 credit hours.

Obviously, we're talking apples and oranges, but I'm curious.

different system - different credit values

simple as that really.

But, well done Ang. One step forward and a big one at that. It is a pity that the don't do "Dormouse Life Studies - 300 credits" :)

OU credits

120 credits equals one years study of "full time" education so a 3 year degree is 360 credits; but if you select the correct third and fourth level courses the degree becomes "with honours". Maximum permissable study/year is 120 credits = 2 x 60 credit courses or 4 x 30 credit courses or a combo of each. There are also some 15 credit courses on specific topics. You can also transfer in previous earned study credits from other institutions on a case by case basis.

My BSc (Hons) (1999 graduation) took 6 years; one year of which was only 30 credits to make up for which I did 90 credits the following year. 90 credits was a LOT of work; considering I was working full time and with a part time job in addition. Thouroughly enjoyed the 6 years and would love to do some post-grad work; but the costs these days are prohibitive...

Way to go hon

Though my stupid imagination at first glance of your blog title made me think of 'passing' a module *wince*.

Good For You

I'm pleased to hear that you are making progress as you have planned towards your degree.

All the best to you, cbee.

Congratulations on your

Congratulations on your present achievement. That is indeed wonderful, and 5 years is not all that long. Remember, if you do nothing for the 5 years, you will be still be 5 years older. This way, when you are five years older, you will have something to look back upon and be able to say "I achieved that."
Cheers!!

Well done. I never got round to doing a full degree with the OU because I was admitted to two higher level courses (one post-grad) in my subject area at another place after two years. I completed the diploma and the other two courses in one very hectic year, and then had far too much work as a freelance to be able to study as well - so the Welsh course has been on hold for the last 8 years :(
I can't recommend the OU too highly - it's one of the best legacies of the 1960s.

Well done!

I have a great respect for those who do it the hard (aka Open University) way. It needs much more stickability than the residential course which most of us go through.
Best wishes
