One of my favorite bumper stickers:

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

"If you can read this, thank a teacher: since it's in English, then a veteran."

Another that tops the list:

"Have you hugged a veteran today?"

On today especially, we should remember all those who went to a foreign country to secure our freedoms and came home under our flag. I have High School classmates that qualify. Curtis Onchie, thank you.

It's particularly poignant for me because, due to a youthful indiscretion, I was not allow to serve my country in that fashion. It had been my goal to make the military my career, but I was classified 1Y and not allowed.

My hat is off to all who served.

Hugs
Patricia

Happiness is being all dressed up and HAVING some place to go.

Don't forget those who couldn't serve

Without the people back home building the Tanks, Guns, Planes, Ships and Subs
and making the munitions, the troops/sailors/airmen would not have had the tools to do their job.

I lost three great uncles on the Somme inside a week in June 1916. Two other brothers wanted to volunteer but were rejected because they were in reserved occupations. The made artillery shells. Both died in the 1920's from the effects of the environment they had to work in. They served but in a different way and deseve to be remembered just as much as those who served in the forces.
