NEVERLAND

It might be miles beyond the moon,
Or right there where you stand.
Just keep an open mind,
And then suddenly you'll find
Never Never Land.

"Oh, Peter, you know I can't come with you...I've grown old...we all do...even you, dear heart."

Wendy sat on the edge of her bed, her long grey hair combed out and looking lovely, even at her age.

"But I need someone to fly with, to have adventures...to dream." Peter said.

"Oh, honey, don't you realize, it was all a dream." Wendy shook her head, the tears of sympathy for the poor boy running down her face, leaving tracks on her cheeks.

"No...I can't let that be true....it hurts. It hurts too much to bear." Peter wept, falling at her feet beside the bed. She stroked his hair.

"The dreams were as real as they could be, dear heart. We can still treasure what they were, even now, but they were still dreams. Only dreams, Peter." She kissed the top of his head and looked out the window, seeking and searching for something that would ease his pain.

"I don't like what I've become..it's not fair. This should never have happened." He looked up into her eyes, seeing the love from her that spanned the years...so long, so sad, but she still cared for him.

"Come now, dear heart. We can still dream, can't we? It's still night while we breathe, yes?" She lifted him from the floor gently as he stood, taller than he had become, stronger than he had been for a long while. And more beautiful than either of them would ever recall.

"You still are a lost boy in a way...let me help you....I want to so much to ease your sadness, even if for a little while." She pulled her dear love into her for an embrace. Carefully and slowly, she pulled his clothing from his body, leaving him naked, but not ashamed.

"But what if they should come...who will help them?" Peter looked out the window, expecting a visit from old friends that would never again take place.

"They will find their own way, Peter. Let's us just care for you, shall we." She smiled, blinking out her own tears as her hand caressed his face once again, as in when they first met years ago.

"But..." She took her finger and placed it against his lips.

"Shhh, my old dear love.....shhh." She smiled at him with a curious look that puzzled him.

"Let me, okay?" She stepped back and placed her hands over her head, pulling up against her long gown. It came off like a whisper in a quiet room, ever so quiet but a sweet sound nonetheless.

"You can be whomever you want to be, my sweet sweet love." She carefully, almost reverently placed the gown over his head and pulled it down, draping his body with the soft, shiny caress of fabric. He shrugged his shoulders slightly as a breath escaped his lips.

"Now we are the same, yes, my sweet girl? Wendy and Petra, my darling....Wendy and Petra Darling," she laughed ever so softly and kissed the girl's forehead. Transported across time and space and even form, the two hugged like school girls at a slumber party.

"You're so beautiful, Petra. We should get to bed, though. It is getting late, and we don't want to waste the night." She pulled the girl down into the bed with her. Pulling the covers over them both, she squeezed Petra's hand and kissed her neck.

"Sleep my darling, my sweet girl. Embrace who you are, dear heart. Be whom you wish to be, even for just the night. Rest easy and dream sweet dreams once again." She kissed Petra on the cheek even as the girls drifted off into sleep, both young once again.

Christina held her husband tightly against the cold night. Another fitful sleep for both as his dementia had gotten worse. He tossed and turned, lightly of course, his frail frame hardly making a motion, but enough to keep Christina awake. Maybe soon the end would come, but not this night. She wiped the tears from her eyes as she kissed her dear husband Stephano once again, blessing the day they met and thanking God for another night together.

I have a place where dreams are born,
And time is never planned.
It's not on any chart,
You must find it with your heart.

Well done!!!

btw, Mary Martin defined the role, which really dates me.

That was beautiful.

Hi Andrea.

That was a beautiful take on the Peter Pan and Wendy story.

Would that we never grow old. It's a scary dream but a fascinating one.

Love and hugs,

Beverly.

Sad but true, I'm growing old disgracefully.
