The BigCloset Battletech and Mechwarrior Writing Club

Bigcloset's very own page for Battletech and Mechwarrior LGBT fan fiction.

Battletech, Mechwarrior, Mechwarrior Dark Age and all the other product lines associated are wholly owned by Topps.

Topps has licensed Catalyst Game Labs to produce and distribute the Classic Battletech Line of Products.

The rights to the MechWarrior video game line are owned by Piranha Games.

The video game lines of MechAssault and MechCommander are owned by Microsoft Game Studios

Electric Entertainment currently holds the option to produce a live-action Battletech/Mechwarrior movie.

I honestly have no idea who currently holds the rights to the CCG, Comics, or Cartoon. It's probably Topps

If you write a story set in the Battletech universe or any specific part of it, please give credit where it is due.

The Official Battletech Website Forum has a section for Fan Fiction. Battletech Fan Fiction

Battletech Master Unit List -- Every unit that is canon or been officially published is listed on this site. The output contains very basic information. Full Stats are not listed, but you usually get at least a picture. You can also search for specific units by criteria such as type, sourcebook(year TRO if you need relative time specific), era, weight, battle value, faction, and more.

Camo Specs Online - A guide to Regimental Paint Schemes. Any unit can actually be painted any color or scheme for combat, but sometimes, you need to know what the parade, or garrison paint scheme is. Not every unit is listed or has figure with a painted scheme done for it.

Heavy Metal Pro -- Official Software for Battletech. There is unit design software on this site. This may be of utility to some as a way to view unit information. It's not free, but it is a method.

Iron Wind Metals Online Store Battletech -- The Figurines may allow a better view of what a mech and other unit types appear as from multiple sides.

Fighting Pirannha Graphics. They sell waterslide decals of most logos in the Battletech universe, and they're in color. Only a few sourcebooks have what the any depicted logo looks like in color, so this may be of use.

Solaris 7. They have a searchable Technical Readout database for official and player made units, a random unit generator, and quite a bit of information for the Battletech Universe overall.

Sounds cool

erin's picture

This sounds cool and should be fun.

But this page is not fiction or poetry, nor any of the other things that are allowed to be entered as fiction on BC and occupy a spot on the front page. It is an attempt to make an organizational page for a kind of universe. Accordingly, I have changed this to a universe organizer page. I also added the page to the outliner so other stories can be linked to this page. And I've added a universe tag for the universe, so that authors can tag their stories with the universe tag, whether they choose to outline them under this universe page or not, their stories will be easy to find.

Since this isn't fiction, it should not be listed with the stories on the front page, I'll let it stay up for a few hours but some time today I will unstick it from the top of the front page. The proper thing to do for this sort of thing is to make a ++Organizer page for a universe then announce the creation in a Blog with a link to the new universe page. Then ask me to create a universe tag. It's okay that this procedure wasn't followed because it happens so seldom almost no one knows how to do it.

I hope fans of this genre will enjoy reading these stories and some of them will make the effort to write them. :)

Hugs,
Erin

Thank you.

Thank you.

I figured there was a way to make this happen, but hadn't gotten that far yet to figure out.

Planes

Where are the planes that turn into robots? Any vehicle that can turn into another vehicle is awesome.

In Battletech, they're called LAMs (Land-Air Mech)s. It's a straight-away take from Robotech/Macross of the three modes of the Valkyries.

Incredibly rare and extremely hard to field and maintain. In fact, they disappeared from the game for a long while, because of the on-again, off-again license from Harmony Gold for the 'mechs that were in Battletech whose likenesses were taken right from anime like Robotech, Dougram and others. Finally, Battletech did new visuals for those 'mechs and ditched all the old art.

~And so it goes...

Post Clan invasion, there are

Post Clan invasion, there are no factories producing them. The last one was somewhere in the Draconis Combine making spare parts. I think it was Clan Nova Cat who changed the factory to produce other parts and systems as they saw the LAM concept at odds with their idea of dedicated roles.

Then there was the Jihad with the Blakists having LAMs. None were available for purchase from them, nor were any spare parts available beyond salvage if you had one of their LAMs. No production site was ever mentioned or confirmed in any source material I have access to. Odessa would have been a plausible location for the LAM production line, but it was destroyed by the Blakists to prevent it's use by the Alliance. Three of the hidden worlds supposedly were never found, plus there is always the deep periphery to contain any production sites. Last of all, the Blakists could have been producing parts under everyone's noses the whole time and then shipping them somewhere to have it assembled.

Did you guys know I'm high functioning autistic and for a long time from age 11 to age 19, Battletech was an obsession of mine. Now it's just something I like.

Maruader (command zentradi pod), warhammer (destroid), archer (been awhile since i played), long bow. and i think some others besides the LAM's. i used to love those things but got to a point where they were kind of pointless other than their link to Robotech. they were never in any of the video games that i remember ( i still have most of those)

Worng Universe

wolfjess7's picture

Thats the Transformers or Robotech universe. Battle Tech is set in the years between 3025 and going on. In that universe the bad boy of the battle field is the Battlemech. They wiegh between 20 to 100 tons and have more firepower that a paltoon of modern day tanks. Take the Armored Power Suites of Death's Own Daughter and beef them up by 50% and then you have a Battlemech.:)

May the peace and happiness of the Goddess keep and protect you
as always your humble outlaw

LAM's

There are 3 different LAM's, 2 are based off of Light Mechs and one is based off of a Medium Mech. All 3 variants are pretty much direct copies of Robotech Varitech Fighters. The 3 LAM's are the STG-A5 Stinger (30 tons) based off of the 20 ton Stinger. The WSP-105 Wasp (30 ton) based off of the 20 Wasp. And finally, the PHX-HK2 Phoenic Hawk (50 ton) based off of the 45 ton Phoenix Hawk. The stats for all 3 can be found in the 3025 Technical Readout and they fall under the old FASA lv 1 rules. They along with about 20 other Mechs are in the catagory of Mechs that had all images removed from official sources due to being almost total copies of Robotech material. Another Mech, my favorite, the 55 ton GRF-1 Griffin is another Mech that could no longer be mentioned in Battletech novels or at least have images of them shown. This made for a bit of a problem since there have been for years, 2 GRF-1S Griffins on either side of the Throne in the Throne Room of the Stiener Palace on Tharkad.

There are..

There are more LAMS. The Blakists Jihad revealed that they had used some. Also there are the Scorpion and Shadow Hawk LAM prototypes which were built but proved unfeasible.

The Griffin is actually still around, but with new pics. Catalyst released the Project Phoenix TRO which reintroduced the mechs that had their images banned.

Battletech

Is there much TG fiction in the Battlegech fanfiction?

Nope!

erica jane's picture

That doesn't mean it can't be written.

~And so it goes...

TG in Battletech

TG gets a short mention in one novel that takes place in the years leading up to the 3039 war when Hanse Davion took almost a third of the Capellan worlds from them as a wedding present to his Bride Melissa Stiener of the Lyran Commonwealth.

Battle mecha

would be the more correct term. :) Battle Tech was created by a company call FASA many Yarns ago simulating huge battle-mechs in combat. It's source material has the background taking place far in the future where the strife had been going on for so long that they've lost most of the knowledge of how to construct new designs although the automated factories still crank out tried and true designs.

I always thought it felt rather like Frank Herbert's Dune given the universe was divided up into Ruling Houses that has age long feuds with each other.

There are many, many paperback books based in this universe by authors such as Robert Stackpole and others. Your quality may vary. :)

My game group took this to mean that the tech decline would continue after one brief blaze of hope from House Davion as all the other Houses ganged up against him. However, the game company took the opposite tack much to our dismay.

The idea of Mad Max with broken down, barely working battle-mechs while attractive to us, wasn't the way to sell many game books and expansions.

The above commentary is the opinion of the writer.

Yeah...

erica jane's picture

There was this tragic pathos feel to the original Battledroids and Battletech. Battledroids had to change it's name to Battletech due to threat of lawsuits from LucasFilm. (True Story!)

This sad remnant of the pinnacle of the human race, squabbling like school children over broken toys in an almost empty sandbox.

'Mechs were handed down from generation to generation. Patched together as best as possible. Automated factories can still build new ones, given the materials. Those factories are guarded as being priceless. The poor technological understanding, explained why machines that carry weapons that should be ranged in kilometers slug it out in close up, line-of-sight and face-to-face brutality.

Jumpships couldn't be built anymore. Destroying a jumpship was a quick way to be hunted down by anyone and everyone.

Mike Stackpole's Warrior trilogy is a great way to just immerse yourself in the universe if you're not familiar with it. I think you crossed Robert Charette or Robert Thurston with Mike. Both also wrote BT novels.

The cool thing is, you can play that game. Rules are suggestions, expansions can be ignored. John Wick (creator of the Legend of the Five Rings and 7th Sea RPGs (amidst several others) once said, "...don't let rules or a game book get in the way of a good story. RPGs are at their core, interactive storytelling. The best games, the ones you remember for years afterwards never lose sight of that."

~And so it goes...

It's Michael A. Stackpole.

It's Michael A. Stackpole. He also has a book -- In Hero Years, I'm dead. A really good book.

Not much of that universe made sense.

While the game was fun, and some of the fiction was good. Some of the first stuff I wrote was BT Fanfiction, the people in charge of the universe just went nuts with the story line. I liked the Mad Max aspects, but that didn't go well with the huge star system spanning nations.

Somewhere we need to...

erica jane's picture

remind peoples that this all belongs to Wizkids and Catalyst Game Labs. It's their universe, we're just throwing out some fanfic for it.

~And so it goes...

I think we can check this off the list

I think I found and put the correct legal owner info. I could be wrong and it of course can always change but I think I found the pertinent info.

I'm already through an outline and roughing out my Battletech story. I'm excited about this.

Alternative to Heavy Metal Pro

Heavy Metal Pro is actually outdated now. Solaris Skunk Werks and MegaMek Lab (creator tool for MegaMek, a way of playing Battletech online) are better options that are also free.
