Fighting illness and injury.

Since last weekend, that is, the weekend of Dec 1st, I had been fighting an abscess on the back of my shoulder. That Sunday I went into the emergency room to have the abscess lanced and drained, which they did, after some big time pain. I left with a large bandage on my shoulder, and not much else except a couple of pricey prescriptions which I couldn't afford.

I went to my VA clinic Monday because the bandaging hadn't held well and the wound needed redone. In the process, I found myself extremely short of breath, to the point where the nurses wanted to call a rescue squad for me. I managed to talk them out of it and I left there with a large bag of gauze, tape, etc.

Sometime Tuesday I came down with the sniffles. I started using ColdEze immediately and it seemed to be working. However, come Wednesday, I was down with a real time, no fooling around, cold/flu bug. Took the antibiotics given to me by the VA and they seemed to help a bit, but that whole week is pretty much a blur of sleep, coughing, headaches and breathing problems.

That has been my entire month of December up til now. the shoulder is pretty much healed enough to go without bandaging, but the cold/flu/whatever it is, lingers on. my breathing remains iffy, but I do have and have had COPD. (Look it up)

The only bright spot in all of this is, after 55 years of smoking, it seems that this illness has forced me to quit, since I hack and wheeze inordinately whenever I try to smoke a cigarette. I'm on my 4th day ws (without smoke) as of this writing. Hopefully at least this part of whatever bug has me in it's firm grasp, will continue after it has run it's course.

Oh, the urge to have a smoke is still there. I can feel it. i wanna light one up as I'm typing this, but I know what will happen if I do. Remember the hacking and wheezing? NOT fun. I DO consider this a good thing, as I have been TRYING to quit smoking, but had been remarkably unsuccessful. I started smoking when I was 11... I'm now 66... you do the math.

Anyhoo, if you've messaged me over the past several days and not gotten a response from me, this is why. i've spent a GREAT deal of time sleeping, since when I'm asleep, I don't cough as much. Sorry.

Sorry to hear you are unwell,

Sorry to hear you are unwell, I'm getting over an abscess from a broken tooth myself. Fortunately, I got dentist to prescribe antibiotics before they drilled the tooth and lanced the abscess.

I can't risk getting unwell from not using antibiotics as I'm a Stroke risk. got to go back to Dentist tomorrow for a checkup.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

Big hugs

Lizzie :)

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.

FWIW...

...antibiotics only work on difficulties caused by bacteria, and cold and flu are viruses that they can't deal with. (Kaiser Permanente, the big HMO out here in California, has posters all over their offices pointing that out.)

So to put it the other way, if antibiotics are actually helping and it's not a placebo effect, then what you have isn't a cold or the flu. That news probably won't make you feel any better, but it may assist in diagnosing things if it comes to that.

Hope you feel better soon, and that you can stay off the cigarettes.

Best, Eric

Well if that don't cut the mustard!

Hugs Girl, You trying to play punny so you don't have to edit my stories no more? Nice try but won't work. No good works goes unpunished.

Drinking apple juice, orange juice, sipping hot lemonade,

If you are applying the BenGay and slipping on a tee shirt when you go to bed at night.

If you are rinsing your toothbrush in bleach each time you brush so you don't keep recycling whatever is biting you from a contaminated toothbrush
And brush your tongue at the same time you brush your teeth.

This too shall pass.
