Using a slide rule and caliper, Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon spent fifteen years carefully measuring changes in the orientation of breasts belonging to 130 women, at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (University Hospital) in Besançon.

Apparently, the lesson to be learned from the preliminary results of his marathon experiment is that “bras are a false necessity. Medically, physiologically, anatomically — breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.”

Of course, this totally

Of course, this totally ignores the benefits of bras on the rest of the anatomy - like not beating oneself about the head while trying to run, or suddenly flopping sideways when trying to turn around. Even the small ones can be very distracting when moving around... (so i understand)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Honestly...

Bras are being linked by those who're actually willing to pay attention to all kinds of ills. Breast sag caused by the muscles in the breasts not having to work anymore is fairly cosmetic.

But they're finding that the constriction caused by properly worn bras is a LEADING CAUSE of breast cancer! And that's just the tip of the iceburg!

I'm hardly advocating not wearing one. God I'd be so uncomfortable going out in public without one! But as soon as I'm inside, off goes the public clothes and bra, and on goes something comfy and loose.

Well, improperly fitting

Well, improperly fitting _anything_ can cause issues. It sounds like so many people, they're not focusing on the right issue. Instead of focusing specifically on bras, they should be focusing on comfort, or the need for proper fitting, etc. (It happens with lots of issues. Makes me wonder why people are so blind)

I said properly worn...

As in even properly fitted bras is a leading cause of cancer... Improper fitting doesn't make things any better or worse though, I don't suspect.

Apologies for misreading...

Apologies for misreading... However, I'd venture a guess that they can't actually point to bras as a 'cause' of cancer. The best they could do is 'contributing factor'.

Perhaps...

Perhaps it also depends on one's size... I know some with F/G/H cups... Every one of them finds them extremely painful when not supported. Me, as long as I'm not doing anything strenuous, I can go without. But, then, my girls are no larger than average.

As to constriction... Most of us probably do NOT wear them properly (or so I was informed when I got fitted at Nordstroms... I was wearing what I felt to be comfortable bras... And was told they were the wrong size)...

Perhaps the report is not general... *shrugs*

True...

I couldn't imagine what those cup sizes must be like, to be honest... And my nipples are so sensitive that if I'm going to do much moving around at all I've got to wear one anyways, SOMETHING needs to hold firmly in place and not chafe them at all. Even the softest materials cause discomfort if it moves.

I still remove my bra at every available moment though. Too many problems associated with constant wear.

Dressed to Kill

There was a book out some years ago which claimed the same thing, but was pretty much debunked by all the usual scientific bodies.

On the other hand, there was a British study back in 2000 CE which pretty much said the same thing as the French study about the effects of wearing bras, except that they found that post-menopausal women actually benefited from going braless, experiencing fewer days of breast pain, which does have a possible link to breast cancer.

As Someone Who Lived In The Pacific Islands

I can opine with total observational accuracy that women's nipples definitely do not migrate upwards if they don't wear bras and I didn't have to measure them to come to that conclusion.

In Papua-New Guinea in the 1960s it was common to see elderly women who hadn't ever worn a bra with nipples very close to their waists, if not actually lower. Similarly in Fiji, although not to the same extent as wearing a bra came in earlier in that country.

To think that a man can get paid good money for such rubbish!
