Tom Gabel of Against Me! Comes Out as Transgender

I thought this might interest some of you folks. However, his (her) name means nothing to me. I haven't a clue about his person, their group or their music

We are perhaps a bit older than her demographic?

Andrea Lena's picture

She's going to remain married to her wife and be the parent to her kids. Her name would have been Laura had she been born a girl, so her new name is Laura Jane Grace. Here's a photo comparison:

Everything I've read seems to indicate this is authentic. God bless her, I hope everything works out okay.

Older Demographics You Say!!!!

But for as you call it the Older Demographic (also called "Over the Hill" or in Yiddish "Alter Kakka") the following would have certainly caught our attention.

Briana and Carla Wilson (Beach Girls)
Paula Simon
Petra Yarrow and Paula Stookey
and most of all
Paula McCartney
Jane Lennon
Rikki Starkey
Georgina Harrison
and for our folks
old Blue Eyes Herself
Franny Sinatra

With smiles ;-0.

Burly Chassis (not a name change, just a spoonerism!)
Daniel Ross
Peter Clark
Luther
Carl Simon
Nathan Sinatra, the son of old Blue Eyes
Possibly my favorite band ever, Simon and the Spectres

I could go on...

As is my wont

I looked at the comments.
"I am confused.....the wife is straight, so now she has to be gay because her husband is a man? Or is she allowed to have sex with other men, now? Also, is the name Laura Grace Gabel or what? How do you explain to a 2 year old that daddy is now mommy? Could't he just be a transexual after the kid goes to bed? I don't understand."

Part of the above I am addressing as best I can in one of my stories, the female straight partner presented with a female gay (trans) partner. Fair question, The bit about the kid, well, welcome to our world.

A tougher transition then most I'd say

If she wants to continue in her chosen profession will she be able to effect a decent singing voice? It may or may not be easy depending on what her vocal range is. As a hopefully a trained singer, the talking part might be easier but vocal range is vocal range and I know it is hard to retrain a singing voice.

On top of that she is obviously in a very public profession so she more than most is risking her entire livelihood on her transition.

On the plus side, she as a he has a very nice face, I think she will turn out quite pretty.
