The stereotypical image we have of summer (and it's most definitely summer here - ninety degrees, can you believe it?) is a sumer spent mostly at the beach.   But some girls - girls like me - don't look at time at the beach as a stereotypical summer - lying in the sun, lounging around and working on their tans.   But, being "a stranger in a strange land," I felt anonymous enough that I thought I could do some of that without any of the consequences.   We planned on going to the beach this afternoon.

But we didn't really have an opportunity to spend time at the beach - the highways were too full of holiday commuters, and besides the beaches were too far.   So we just went to a pool in one of the hotels.   Not exactly a beach but at least it wasn't crowded, and we were in the sun and near water.

I didn't get to practice swimming - still not good at it - so I stayed in the kiddie side of the pool.   Moe ranged over most of the length of the pool, though, showing off.   I'll be able to do that eventually.   I hope.

I'm gettin' pretty brown.   I'm way past tan lines now, and since my ma is from South Italy, I guess I tan pretty good.   I was worried that if I tan too much, my plastic surgery incisions will become obvious.   Thank goodness they didn't.   My surgeon was right.   Anyway, like I said, I'm way past tan lines now.   My one-piece was incredibly white on me. Good thing Moe likes me this way.

But it wasn't all fun.   I mentioned in the previous blog, when you're in a strange place, you tend to fill the unfamiliar with familiar things - with safe people and safe things. And I guess that's what I'm doing.   Coz I actually miss home a little bit.

Holidays can be pretty lonely, but it's always good to look at what you have, and do things to keep busy,   I'm doin' okay, I got my Moe, and I am enjoying my stay here as much as anyone can when one is away from home.

It was pretty much okay today.

Yet more I learn...

Yet more I learn from your blog... I'd wondered about surgery incisions showing up when acquiring a tan... I tan quite well (except where I have vitiligo where I dont' tan at all)... Something I suspect is due to the drips of native american blood that run through my veins (Except for that bit, my ancestry is almost all northern European - as far south as Northern Switzerland.)...

Thank you and I hope your weekend isn't too lonely.

Annette

I don't really tan well at all...

My skin has ALWAYS reddened easily. I don't burn either, it's a "red man" kind of red, you know? Like my skin tone itself has more red to it than not.

But yeah, I do get very obvious tan lines in the summer, but they aren't "tan" lines, they're more red... sadly, they're shorts, tee, and boot lines, I work all day in the sun, so it's impossible to get a more even tan even if I wanted to. Because of the ruddiness of my skin though, I prefer staying more pale and wear extremely heavy sun screen with the highest spf. Rosy is better than Red, imo.

You two are so lucky...

Abigail Drew.

I dunno...

While I tan... I avoid tanning (heavy sun block) as tanning ages the skin (according to my dermatologist)... That, and them finding a mole that was "precancerous" about 20 years ago convinced me that I'd best be careful.

While I don't recommend it - you may find that if you severely burn yourself - next year that spot might just have a nice brown tan... (My wife was out picking strawberries one summer. If you don't know what that's like, you're bent over - a LOT. She'd put sun screen all over, or so she thought. Her tank top had ridden up above her shorts and she ended up with a banana shaped burn... And for the next decade - winter or summer - she had a nice tan where she'd burnt. She also "reddens" in the sun.)

Two years ago - at Disneyworld, I ended up with sandal lines on my feet. LOL (No burn!) But, they were most definitely LADIES sandal lines, so no bare feet away from home until they faded. LOL
