Is Bob okay? I tried logging onto Crystal Hall this morning and got that can't find server message. I also tried Stardust, but got the same message. I understand his health hasn't been that good. I do hope everything is alright.

As a matter of fact

Anathema, an Exalted Universe fanfic story, by Bek, undated yesterday. There has been rumors of server difficulties causing problems with updating and disrupted links. I just got a bit concerned given both Crystal Hall and Stardust was down.

TG Library is down also

Hi All,

Angharad has FORCED me to start reading "EAFOAB" and I am up to #300 or so and now I may have to resort to reading it 'by the numbers' here. POOP!

A HUGE kudo to the fine people who have archived it in 50 episode chunks.

Oh well "Bike" is every bit as good as everyone has always claimed it was. It was only my fear of tackling such a BEHEMOTH that kept me from starting earlier.

with love,

Hope

big project

i know what you mean, she was in the 900's when i started, now i'm in the 1200's and she's stated the 1400's.
i'm gaining slowly but its worth it.

sad

but true. I've read it beginning to end four times. I started reading in the 1100's, I think.

Dear Hope

A HUGE kudo to the fine people who have archived it in 50 episode chunks.

On behalf of the others in the team (Angharad, Bonzi, Izzy, Erin, Holly H. and mittfh) it's great to see a comment like this. It somehow validates the effort that's gone in.

There are now more than 1.9 million words in this saga, so don't be surprised if it takes a while to read yourself current.

I'm hoping to get the latest 50-episode chunk uploaded later this week. Don't forget that you can Ctrl-A (Select All), Ctrl-C (Copy) then Ctrl-V (Paste) each block into your favorite word processor for offline reading.

Phone call to Bob

erin's picture

Bob does not answer his phone but the weather is nice where he is today and he frequently makes a midday grocery run on Mondays. I'll try again later.

Hugs,
Erin

Still no answer

I'm actually a bit worried but this latest time I got a message that said phone network error. I'll keep trying.

Hugs,
Erin

Bob Arnold

According to Warren, he hasn't been able to get ahold of Bob for the last three weeks, and he hasn't been able to upload to the server for the last few. The Anathema upload had to go into the same directory as the index because he doesn't have upload access to the other directories.

I've put a "down" notice on the Crystal hall wiki: http://crystalhall.wikia.com/wiki/Whateley_Academy_Wiki.

I'm praying that Bob is all right, and the problem is just unscheduled server maintenance.

If you hear anything, please email me so I can update site status - I don't sign on here frequently enough for a PM to work. I'll check my email every few hours.

I ran some tests on the IP

I ran some tests on the IP addresses for his name servers - they aren't responding. It's acting like his circuit is down. That would also blow up his phone network if those are fed through the same circuit.

T1 comes through his phone lines

In bad weather, he sometimes loses both. I talked to Bob a week ago yesterday, I think. Normally we call each other once a week or so. But he still isn't answering.

Now, he was talking to me about working a fair this summer, but I thought that was the NY State Fair which is in August. Maybe a county fair? I'll keep checking. His nephew lives next door but unfortunately, I don't know the man's name. I don't think his last name is Arnold.

Call the police

Ask them to do a welfare check. Perhaps they might supply the nephew's name and number also.

This is an unbelievably sad

This is an unbelievably sad day since Bob was always so involved. Not to mention, I loved his stories as well. Godspeed Bob.

The kind words

He PMed me with for my very first story helped me to keep writing. He was always there to help me as I fumbled with this internet thing learning how to post. His Zapped stories entertained and left me wanting more. To say he'll be missed is the biggest understatement I've ever heard.
I echo your words Shannon.

Thank you, Erin

I was preparing an emergency contact request to send through the Red Cross and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

I'm so sorry.

Bob WAS part of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service in his area

He had a room full of electronics for storm tracking and radio relaying stuff, too.

Yeah, I know

That's why I was going to contact the EC (Emergency Coord.) for his area. Figured he would know if anything had happened, and wouldn't mind checking on Bob if he hadn't heard. Same thing the Red Cross would do, except Hams would do it tonight, the ARC wouldn't get to it until tomorrow.

Bob Arnold

That's a shame. I loved his writing and he has made a great contribution of time and resources with chrystalhall.org and stardustr.us. He'll be missed. Already is if this thread is any indication.

RIP Bob

I didn't know Bob well, but in my dealings with him, he always struck me as a quiet achiever: someone who knew how to get things done.

I also enjoyed his stories, plus all those he had a hand in as the editor.

He will be a huge loss.

Bob will be missed by all!

I wish I could donate to the Rescue fund, I've been in Shakespeare Mode for the last month so our funds are kinda tight right now since I'm not working my day job.
