Japan has experienced a most devastating earthquake and tsunami. Hundreds are confirmed dead, and thousands are still among the missing. It might not be over yet either, as reports coming out of Japan seem to indicate that a damaged nuclear plant might be in meltdown.

The quake is the 5th biggest EVER recorded and the tsunamis spawned by it have already impacted Hawaii and the east coast of the U.S. Please say a prayer for those who have died, for those who are missing, and for a country that will have a horrible time recovering.

in sadness, I am,

A nuclear power expert (ya

A nuclear power expert (ya know what an ex-spurt is, a drip under pressure, yeah?) said that due to a better engineered design the radiation is contained pretty much to the core, and what little escaped before shutdown is less exposure than a MRI and is dropping fast below that intensity. He says a meltdown is very unlikely since they did everything right. At least, if true, that is some good news in all this. Six million folks without power is still a staggering figure, and thousands missing.

The Big One

For years the West Coast has talked of the Big One, the huge shattering earthquake to rival the great San Francisco disaster. However that's exactly what has happened to Japan. It was absolutely their Big One and all considered the twin Horsemen of the Quake and the Tsunami could've been much worse. With the history of past quakes, they take their building codes very seriously. Will we able to say the same when our next disaster happens?

That does not take away from all those who've lost everything, or is still stranded trapped by the water with no power, or food.
