"If you come into the NFL dressed the way that she is dressed you are just asking for it."
-- Fox NFL analyst Brian Baldinger on Ines Sainz sexual harassment charges.

Stupid man!! Misogynist jerk!! I suppose all women who are assulted and raped are asking for it too because of how they are dressed? How can ANYONE support or pay money, and sooo much of it at that, to such total jerk-offs who spew such four-letter-banyard-terminology in public like that? I hope his wife (or his gay lover) kicks him out of the house for that one. hmmm, What does his last name say about his little dinger? And I bet it is little too. He has to be trying to compensate for some insecurity. Total ASS.

Comments

Sadly, there ARE

Sadly, there ARE way to many people that actually believe that garbage. Enough so, that it's unlikely that said analyst is not only not going to get even a slap on the write, but have many people stand up and agree with him. :-(

The same kind of mentality supports those who bash transgendered people, verbally or physically. Only there, it's even LESS likely to draw censure.

*sighs*

Don't get me wrong....

...for real, I'm related to the Yankee Clipper, and I've also followed the football Giants since I was in high school. But living ostensibly in the 'sports' capitol of the world, I hear this crap all the time. Che cosa un odioso stupidi!

A couple of years ago, the local sports radio stations were down on Alex Rodriguez, not because he cheated on his wife; they called her a golddigger. They were upset because he missed a post-All Star game party. The morning show that took over Imus' spot on the radio is much more racist and misogynistic than Imus ever was.

And yes, it's all our fault. As we know and they seem to miss, rape isn't about sex; it's about power and control, and these fools just don't get it.

I expect some nasty comments, but...

First of all, Brian Baldinger should be fired by Fox, and banned from NFL sidelines and locker rooms, and where ever else the NFL can ban him from. He is an ASS.

Second MS. Sainz wasn't dressed appropriately for the job she was doing, I'm not saying she deserved any of the treatment she got, nor does any woman deserve to be harassed, raped, assaulted or anything based upon their dress. BUT you need to dress appropriately for the job you are doing, and she wasn't. That at least is my opinion.

BTW any of the players found guilty of harassing her, should be fined and suspended.

Appropriateness

erin's picture

She was dressed attractively. It's her job. The guys over-reacted and she handled it without upset. It's everyone else since then that is the problem.

Women in her sort of job are expected to dress that way because it is part of the power they bring to the job: they attract attention, they're supposed to.

She did not file a grievance, someone else did on her behalf. This stirred up the shit storm which she is calmly taking advantage of to do what she is paid to do: get people's attention.

Reactionary talk show hosts and bloggers are blaming her. Feminist organizations are blaming the guys in the locker room.

The guys in the locker room screwed up. They should be lectured by their coach so they learn not to do that. The feminist organizations are shining a spotlight on it so that someone realizes that yes, this is a problem.

The reactionary talk show hosts are doing what they are paid to do to: attracting attention. It's a little less savory than what Ms. Sainz does, and for that matter what football players do on the field. It's all in the service of entertainment and selling advertising.

The thing to do with the talk show hosts is to point and laugh at them. The thing to do with the footballers is to grin and shake your head saying, "no, no," while making motions with your fingers. Naughty boys, time to grow up.

The thing to do with Ms. Sainz is smile and nod, roll your eyes and shrug. The thing to do with the feminist organizations is to give them a quiet, "atta girl," while frowning publicly to indicate that they have done their job and can back off a bit.

It'll all blow over soon and in fact, the world is likely to be a little bit better place because a sexy lady walked into a locker room full of macho types -- and all that happened was a little embarrassing hubub which she knew how to handle. The guys were idiots but sometimes, guys are.

Hugs,
Erin

And we thought that the misoginists were Arab?

This exact same rationale; the one in his article; is exactly what I hear from Muslim men if I or one of the women around me is not properly covered. Sometimes I think that woman's rights are progressing, and other times, "not so much".

if i were a footballer...

You are probably right, and this is just an example of the blame-the-woman mentality, but the way it's phrased I think it's more insulting to the people that go into NFL locker rooms than to the woman.

Ooooh, comments like this

Ooooh, comments like this so-called analyst made makes my blood boil. All my life I have heard people say "she was looking for it" simply because they did not like the style of clothing the girl or woman was wearing. So lets step back a mo and figure out who designs alot of women's wear. MEN! What do they know anyway, they only think with their tiny little heads most of the time. Right or wrong in her clothing style; Inez Sainz was trying to do her job and got "dumped on" by a bunch of overpaid, inmature, jerks.

Oh, Jeeminy cricket on a

Oh, Jeeminy cricket on a crutch.

Talk about blown out of proportion. Let's see here.

1) Attractive woman, wearing clothing that ISN'T a burkha or hijib/hijab enters a confined area.
2) Said confined area is filled with males whose job includes a requirement for excessive amounts of testosterone and no requirement for intelligence or grace.
3) Said males make comments about said woman.

These comments could be anywhere from 'Hey baby! Looking good!' all the way to 'Nice tits, can we see!?" (or even a "Wanna fuck later?").

Is anyone SURPRISED or SHOCKED at this? If so, they need a clue. It sounds like the woman in question knew how to deal with the attention, and mostly ignored it. As for "harassment", I've met too many women who would take "Looking good today!" as a sexually charged comment and file harassment charges for it. Get over it. Take a compliment for how it's meant, and not how you might translate it in your own personal head - context is very important. Expecting a football player or construction worker to say "I say, madam, your outfit is absolutely ravishing this afternoon." is somewhere in the Twilight Zone.

BW

(P.S. Those same women would take 'ravishing' as 'I want to do sexually explicit things to you')

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Note: I am in no way

Note: I am in no way condoning harassment. I'm just saying that there are things that shouldn't be unexpected in certain circumstances. This is one of them.

Does The Name Howard Cosell Ring Any Bells For This Guy?

jengrl's picture

This guy should remember that you cannot make comments like this and expect to keep your job. He is obviously suffering from Foot in Mouth Disease. If this guy is married, I hope his wife puts his suitcase out on the porch and tells him to hit the road. The network should show him what happens to people who don't know when to keep their mouth shut and end up making an ass of themselves. I hope Women's groups demand this guy gets the ax if the network hasn't done it yet. What a sexist JERK!!!!

Too sexy?

After trawling Google, I finally found a picture (on CBS's website) of the outfit Inez was wearing on the day:

There's also a video clip which features images of her wearing the 'controversial' outfit.

Personally, I don't find anything wrong with the outfit. OK, maybe it shows some cleavage, but it's perfectly modest by Western standards - she's hardly wearing a string bikini!

As for the harassment complaint itself, I suppose a lot depends on the nature of the catcalls and how long they went on. A few wolf whistles and comments upon entry could perhaps be expected of sports players, but if it went on significantly longer than the initial reaction then there'd almost certainly be grounds for complaint. Besides which, I imagine that game isn't the only one she's covered while wearing similar outfits, so unless it was her first encounter with a US team, I'd imagine she'd be well tuned into 'normal' levels of male lust.

One of the reports on the local radio

Andrea Lena's picture

said that someone (or more) on the team threw footballs in her direction, disrupting the filming. You'll notice in the picture, that it's on the indoor training field and not just the locker room as some commentators in media have reported. It also reported that one of the coaches was present and made no effort to redirect the team to stop interfering with her, which went on for several minutes, causing her camera person to have to begin taping several times. It was reported that some of the comments went beyond the usual silly provocative "construction site" behavior and got sexually suggestive. She's not US reporter, and it remains foolish that the NFL is trying to cultivate a worldwide audience, especially in her home country of Mexico, while the behavior of a few idiots is being brushed aside as a 'boys will be boys' by some in the media, but that's at least what I've come to expect from New York sports.

Having _watched_ Mexican

Having _watched_ Mexican television (you can't avoid it in Houston), news, soap operas, and 'general programming', I'd say she's probably heard it all. Heck, thrown footballs would be the only 'new' behaviour, and that only because it comes from the players, and not the spectators.

Having seen the photo of her,

My first impulse is to see red and think "BITCH"!!!! Then I think of what I look like in the mirror! :(

Of course, all the feminazzis are saying just what you'd expect. Sorry, I do not consider her outfit to be professional at all. I think it is absolutely nessessary for Women to consider their effect on men just a little. I had that Testosterone SHITin me once and the happiest day of my life was to wake up and realize it was not clouding my thinking any more.

Nope, this time I am on the player's side.

Gwen

Then again...

Given she's young, attractive and has ample-sized mammaries, I'd imagine a business suit would have had a similar effect upon the lads, or even possibly a dress (even with a high neckline). Most of them wouldn't be able to see her cleavage from their vantage points.

It seems as though although American Football is closer to Rugby in terms of play, if the attitude of these players is to go by, perhaps a third clause could be added to this old adage:

(Association) Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, whereas rugby is a hooligans' game played by gentlemen.

Then again, thinking of Rugby football (from which the US version was derived)...

Oscar Wilde thought a rugby match was “a good occasion for keeping 30 bullies far from the centre of the city”. PG Wodehouse was surprised that rugby allowed things “which, if done elsewhere, would result in 14 days, coupled with some strong remarks from the Bench”. (Source)

Sidenote: The first adage is (unsurprisingly) a misquote. For the true tale, look here.

It Just Beats The Hell Out Of ME!

One thing that I just can not fathom at all is that it took just lots of BALLS to walk ashore at Normandy, and just lots of other stuff that women have not done. I'll even go further and state that I do not think that Women should be involved in Combat in the Military AT ALL!

I have nothing against men at all. It was just bothersome to be married to a feminazzi for 40 years, and I finally decided to try the other side, which is much more to my liking. :) If she could not stand the heat, then she should have stayed out ...

I just think it is way over the top to cultivate extreme MALE behavior, and then bitch about it.

Much peace

Gwen
