The Social Psychology of Gender: How Power and Intimacy Shape Gender Relations
by Laurie A Rudman and Peter Glick (May, 2010)

Psychology is one of the referent disciplines for my area of research, and so I'm on quite a few mailing lists for books and other resources.

Today, information about the above book appeared in one such email. For further info, do a search on Amazon for the ISBN: 9781606239636.

I don't own the book, nor am I seriously considering buying a copy. From my perspective, it's mid-priced. There's one good customer review on Amazon, and you can see the book's Table of Contents there too.

The product information is:

Gender relations are rife with contradictions and complexities. Exploring the full range of gender issues, this book offers students and researchers a fresh perspective on everyday experiences of gender; the explicit and implicit attitudes that underlie beliefs about gender differences; and the consequences for our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Many real-world examples illustrate how the unique interdependence of men and women--coupled with pervasive power imbalances--shapes interactions in romantic relationships and the workplace. In the process, the authors shed new light on the challenges facing those who strive for gender parity. Taking readers to the cutting edge of gender theory and research, the book's accessible, engaging style makes it an ideal student text.

Sorry, but...

You lost me after the first 'The' in the book title. Maybe I really am just thick.

I'm wondering

about their claim of accessible and engaging when it's so wordy you need a Phd. to get the blurb. If I need pysche advice I'll just PM, PS.

They're Pyschologically Suitable.

Sounds Like A Great Book

How can anyone pass on reading a compendium of knowledge which is self-described as "Exploring the full range of gender issues."

That's ambition.

The Social Psychology of Gender: The Movie

Andrea Lena's picture

Starring Jude Law and Renee' Zellwegger, Co-starring Christian Slater as the Psychiatrist and introducing Angela Rasch as the narrator. Directed by Susan Heywood.

"We like who we like, and a lot of times we don't know why. Even though we don't know why, this movie will to try to explain why we like who we like. There's a lot of stuff that makes us think we know why we like who we like; we're going to look at that stuff.

In addition, we're going to have people who actually like who they like, and where they like them and how and what they are and who they are affects why they like who they like. Those people will shrug their shoulders just like we did and probably will say, "I don't really know why I like who I like..I just do! And this movie is on the cutting edge, which means even if we knew why we liked who we like, it would be passe' even before it hits the theaters. We already got the money from the studio, but hell, you already knew that."

She was born for all the wrong reasons but grew up for all the right ones.
