So I paid off my outstanding bill with NYSEQ, my electric company. Thanks to everyone who helped me with that. You're AMAZING people. Sadly the company decided they WANTED more. I was on a Budget Billing plan and because I fell behind in my payments, they told me today---AFTER I paid ALL that money to keep my power from being shut off---that the plan was now cancelled and I owe them another $1000 to keep them from shutting it off again.

There was a hidden clause in the Budget Billing contract that they screwed me with. The $1000 is the amount of money that the budget billing plan kept me from paying before. Now that the plan is gone, they WANT all of it back.

So NO MATTER what I do, these people are determined to SCREW ME OVER.

I can't win.I want to crawl into a hole somewhere and die now.

I am sure you can contest the full bill with a state authority and where I am at...you fill out their forms and pay them (the state) only and from there on...then the power 'should' stay on till they 9 i mean the state) comes to an agreement with you.

but IMO don't pay a cent more...

Local TV Station Consumer Assistance

A number of the TV stations in my area provide consumer assistance with this type of problem. It's amazing how quickly many businesses become reasonable when there is a possibility of bad publicity.

I don't know if your local stations provide such a service or if the power company cares about their reputation.

The Situation

So after speaking with NYSEQ, I managed to FINALLY get myself onto another Budget Billing plan. Its more money a month ($235) now and they still want me to pay off the $1000 from their previous plan. I need to make a down payment on that of at least $150 to keep them from shutting my power off on the 20th of April. Plus I'm going to have to make an additional $85 payment every month to pay off the $1000. I'm working with them to get on some kind of Financial Assistance plan to reduce the monthly payments to $10 a month. I think if my brother can manage the $235 a month, I can manage the $85 of so.

My brother is just a stubborn ASS who will WANT to fight it no matter what.

Also as it turns out, my paying of $80 a month that got me into this mess was a miscommunication on their part. NOT that I'll ever be able to prove that. Even though they clearly all but admitted to it. From what the woman I spoke too figures, they only told me how much I'd be paying in Electric a month and NOT both Electric AND Gas.
