Where has the old site gone?

Has it gone walkabout?
Any chance of getting it back?

If there are changes being made then please, please, please tell us in advance and perhaps make a trial page so that we can see what is happening and comment on it.
The site as it stands today (08:28 Friday) has gone backwards a long way in terms of usability. If this stays then I'll be making far fewer visits.
Sorry for the bit of a rant but that is how I see it.

Probably not a deliberate change

I was seeing 503 server errors earlier, so I'm guessing Piper & co are working on fixing something that crashed and you reached the site while it was half-up. It seems to be working now, though.

503 errors

I've been getting them every time I've been on the site for the last 30 hours or so.

As the OP posted though, the site has changed quite a bit, the blogs and comments no longer show on the left side of the home page. Personally, I liked having the blogs and comments there, it allowed me to follow stuff that caught my interest.

Site Down

am grateful for all the work Piper and her colleagues put into the site, the occasional hiccup is something to bear. They provide a lot of pleasure for a lot of people. One of the longest and best sites there is.
Keep up the good work

Reduced Functionality due to Errors

Piper's picture

As has been mentioned we are working on things. We had a raid array begin to fail yesterday. I haven't been able to get to the data-center right away to fix it, so we moved operations from one server to another. Despite my best trying it doesn't appear the two environments were the same.

We are running into weird errors including memory allocation errors, code compiling issues, and Apache segfaults. One of the "symptoms" of these errors is that sometimes the site loads but with extremely limited functionality. I promise you we are working on this and that I won't be sleeping anytime soon.

Thank you

Thank you so much for doing all of this work for us. This site is absolutely awesome. I have read so many stories on it in the past few months. And exchanged messages with some of my favorite authors. I really hope you two find the time and donations to keep this site running for years longer.

just dropped money in the cookie jar.

I just sent $20, via the usually online method.
Would send more but got my own bills i am hashing out.
Hopefully this is not an expensive hardware fix.

First; Thank You Piper for your hard work and dedication. Now the {rant}. You can bust your ass to give people limited functionality, and they WILL bitch about it. Piper has a real job and a real life, and she COULD say "Fu-k It, I'll fix it on Monday". And leave you with 404 Server Not Found errors. BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE. {/rant} Again Thank you Piper.

May the Peace and Happiness of The Goddess keep and protect you

GREAT

I sent $20 as I love the stories that are here and know that I need to help to keep them going.
