Before an administrator gets upset that I'm posting on the same subject too often, this will be the last post about my foot for a while.

1. Dr. Martinez has been awesome. He has really kept on top of things and made sure I got the test that were needed and wouldn't take no for an answer. If others were so proactive, things wouldn't have gone so far.

2. I do not have an infection. Perhaps at one point I did, but I don't now. So that is a relief. After getting a bone scan a few weeks ago and getting a CT scan and x-rays today, everything came up negative.

3. Unfortunately, what I do have is lymphedema. I don't know if it's hereditary (my aunt Catherine had it) or just weight, but the lymph fluids aren't going back up my body. Right now we are going to try compression stockings (as if I needed an excuse for hosiery) and we'll check back with the doctor in a month. I was real worried I was going to lose a foot or something, but I guess I catastrophised (I appreciate the sympathy). He also recommended Gastric bypass. I didn't want to tell him that I oppose the operation (my aunt roe had it and it ruined her life, she was relegated to eating american cheese and saltines the last 20 years of her life, and threw that up often, no thanks.) So I started on this Transfit program. I will be shopping this weekend and on Monday I diet. The goal is to lose 100 lbs this month (mostly water).

support stockings or socks

I use jobst xlfc knee highs for dressier days and socks for everyday use. Amazon sells them for about 60.00 a pair.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

Support Stockings Are Great

I would recommend some a bit longer for a medical condition, possibly thigh-length. You may need help to put them on because they really are tight but once on you will feel that extra support. I agree with Jenna that probably Jobst are the best brand and they are very durable so although they cost a lot to start with you will get a lot of wear out of them.

I must also vote against the use of Gastric Bypass.

My mom was "sentenced" to it by her doctor-at-the-time, and not only was her appetite greviously affected ... it didn't work worth mentioning. My family trends towards the gastronomic efficiency of the mule ... we can live and often thrive on material most would use to brace a door with, so when exposed to actual food-grade ingredients, only strict discipline keeps us from the use of tent-makers as tailors.

What a Relief!

Amputations are horrifying and sickening. I really hope that the good news holds.

Losing 100 lbs in one month? Yikes! Sounds seriously dangerous, and the yo-yo effect will probably kick in.

Best of luck.

Compression hosiery

Take a look at www.brightlifedirect.com for a good selection of all types and brands of compression hosiery. I use their Allegro brand men's thigh highs, which oddly enough carries the same item number as the women's. They are available in several sizes, and compression. They also carry other name brands of compression hosiery, but I have found their Allegro line to be just as good, and cheaper also.

It is so nice to hear that things are getting better for you foot wise, and I wish you good luck on the weight lose. Please keep us all up to date as best you can. AND KEEP WRITING THOSE EXCELLENT STORIES OF YOURS!

a crazy diet suggestion

Dawnfyre's picture

ask your doctor for a copy of the diet used to control diabetes.
It is basically healthy eating, which when coupled with light exercise [ like walking around the block to start with ] really does help with weight control.

I was put on it in grade 3, and forced to stick to it like I was glued to it by my parents for 5 years, now I have the problem of struggling to keep weight ON and actually pick foods that fit the diet by choice. Since diabetes does run in my family, this puts me at a far lower risk of developing it than most of my family.

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.
