Stuff Is Broken...

Printer-friendly version

I know most of you are going to look at the site and be like "No shit Sherlock", but trust me when I tell you that you have no F'ing clue how broken shit is.

What we have now, is probably what you will see for the next couple days. My days are taken up by something else, but don't think I'm not putting my whole into getting BigCloset back up and operational, I am.

I did a lot of sleeping yesterday because after 38 hours or so, you need to sleep...

I will get shit straightened out, I promise but please bear with me while I do so.

Slacker!

Just kidding hon, get some rest, site can wait, your health can't. Take care of yourself and rest up so you can hit it running again. /hugs

Atta Girl!

You are doing a damn fine job. Keep up the good work.
We all understand maintaining this system is a PITA. Do what you can do, when you can do it.
As long as you're not completely out of business, we can all just get along with what we've got.
Many thanks for your service to us all.

Red MacDonald

Thank you once again

So something broke.what of it? it is now fixed . I think all of us who use BC in any capacity owe our admins and the elves a rousing and heartfelt thank you. Maintaining networks let alone servers with a worldwide audience and following on a shoestring is a thankless task even at full salary let alone for love of the site

Thank You !!

If there's something some

If there's something some outside network support can help with, let me know, I can reallocate a server if need be.

Get some sleep. I know the feeling. Spend forever getting stuff so that people can work, and all they want to do is complain about how it's not perfect, rather than "How did you get it up and running that fast?" and thank you.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

"JOLT"

Years ago, I went around looking for a place that carried JOLT. I found a liquor Store near my home and bought two (2) six-packs for my work's annual Christmas potluck.
My fellow employees were not impressed by JOLT. I had one and it tasted like a regular coke to me???

I don't know how you do it.

I just post stories here now and then, plus I'm retired and set my own schedule of things to do; yet I still don't seem to find time to update my own unfinished stories languishing on my hard drive.

Yet you, have another total life making demands on your time and still do major work on servers that aren't even in the same town where you life. You do this all, pretty much behind the scene; a true unsung hero of BCTS. I'm in awe of your devotion and skill all bent toward keeping this site among the premier TG fiction sites on the web. We all owe you a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to repay.

I think I speak for the vast majority of users here when I say, "Thank you, from the bottom of my heart."

Personally, I pray blessing on you, on your family and on your effort on our behalf.

Thank again.

You're more important than the website

koala's picture

Look after your health - we need you more than we need a perfect website.
I know you'll have BC running smoothly again - all it takes is time (which, of course, we all have plenty of - NOT!).
The longer I stay on this planet, the more I'm convinced that Murphy was an IT professional.

Inside every older person is a young person wondering what the heck happened.

No Excuse

You only need 3 hrs sleep every 48 hrs. As long as it's fixed by the Superbowl.

Wow....

I do hope that this is a joke, because if it is, it is poor taste.

Well done Piper

Things are now looking how I like them.
In particular, the very useful "Code" column has now reappeared on the home page. However there is one item whose return I am NOT awaiting with baited breath. That is the narrow Breastform Store advert which splits the Kudos button from the link to the next part of the current author's list. No offense, if I want the BFS there are lots of other links and the presence of this intrusive advert meant I invariably have to scroll down to even see if this link points to the next part of a currently reading story -- or whether I have to wait till the author has uploaded the next part.
Best wishes
Dave

Don't bite the hand

And all that. Those ads are helping to pay the freight here on BC. If more people helped support BC Erin could rely less on outside funding. But that shows no sign of happening. I've given all I can, I'm down to juggling expenses. So ads like the one under discussion are a valuable resource for Erin. Most of us grew up in a time where there were only three TV channels and a sh*tload of commercials. Most of us learned to ignore them, using that time to get a drink, go to the bathroom, or check the other channels. And that's what we'll have to do.

Outsider (Dave) not singling you out. This just happened to come up at the right (wrong?) time and I was inspired to comment.

Looks okay to me ...

I dunno.

I'm a programmer (for a rather dysfunctional mega-corporation), so I've learned to triage stuff. It looks like the site is displaying stories and people are uploading them. By my definition, that means it's working, and if it were me, I'd be telling the bosses "it'll get done when we run out of higher-priority stuff." (Boy, they hate that!)

I think most of us are grateful that the site works as well as it does. And if there are some people who are unhappy with the times it's off-line or all the stories have 0 words, they can always kick in a few bucks (or better, a few hundred.) I'm sure the admins would work better (or at least happier) with a little more in the bank account.

Agreed. If you want to

Agreed. If you want to complain, pay for it.

Pleae don’t be too hard on yourself

“Broken” from your perspective is still valuable to the community. Despite all you have in flux, the site is up, vandals aren’t posting graffiti, trolling, DOSing, or 301ing us to hate sites...could be much worse but it isn’t. So, thank you.
