Oh yes...
Only a few short months ago I was a pure reader - I doubted I'd ever contribute anything meaningful to the site.
Then I got a niggling idea that refused to go away, and "Petra" was born.
Then along came the Music Motif Challenge, and I started writing a few short but crazy tales based (very) loosly on the lyrics...
If you're in any doubt about any writing "talent" you may think you don't possess, take a leaf through my stuff.
It's short, it's infrequent, it's typically quite crazy, but the punters love it :)
Even if it takes a long time to craft a story / episode, don't worry. You don't have to have an imagination vivid enough to produce 1,500+ words almost every day for 3+ years (to date) to be accepted here. For example, new episodes of Education in the Hills and New Style of Education are typically posted once every two months. And TiffQ (author of Something Feels Strange) often takes breaks of several months at a time, as she can only write during school holidays (the rest of the time, she's probably preoccupied with lesson plans/evaluations/pupil assessment etc.)
If you're stuck for ideas, here's the inspiration behind a couple of mine:
a) Petra was a response to one of Vickie Tern's FF stories. I thought - "What if the crossdresser was clued up on what his other half was up to, and took steps to ensure the blackmail demand, when it arrived, wasn't successful?"
b) Goodbye Sam - a song invoking three pairs of male and female names. The original was all about ditching male friends in favour of girlfriends. but it doesn't take much imagination to give it a TG twist. Obviously a story involving three friends who all discover they're TG is rather unlikely to begin with, so I just played with the concept and didn't worry about making it seem too realistic.
c) Fairytale Drabbles - a challenge of a different sort. Since most of my tales have been 1,500-2,000 words long, condense the essence of a fairytale into no more than 100 words, complete with TG twist. Sleeping Beauty and Cinders are obvious targets. If she's been asleep for 100 years and no suitable prince has woken her up, what if she's not attracted to princes? And the obvious twist is that she's hiding a secret under the bedcovers. Cinders involves a magical transformation anyway, so why not have a TG transform?
There are 10 kinds of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't...
Nicely put
I've started, stopped, and started writing again so many times this past year.
I just want to reinforce what you've said about there not being any deadline requirements or other time constraints. The only limit is your own creativity. Whatever you do, don't rush yourself. Take your time and just have fun with it.
This also raises the stumbling block that I faced in the past, and probably ties into my perfectionism, in latent fears of "not being good enough." Noone's perfect, and everyone makes mistakes. Technical mistakes can be fixed, and plot holes can be patched if they need to be.
I would say more, but my hand's starting to cramp, so I'll just stop there with a stamp of wholehearted agreement with both of you :-D

I've written a lot over the years and every time i get really far i just stop.i rewritten story's more times then i can count. too the point i now mostly come up with stuff too help out friends with there stories or read over there and give them idea's. i can never complete a story, because i come up with more the 4 ways that things could turn out. Like now i rewriting 4 old stories that i have written while i was in high school as well a few that i done while in the Military. I've always can come up with things too write about when i see, hear or reading about some things. It the just sticking too one train with out wondering about all the other track there is ahead that could go better or worst for each person or the main toon in the story. Ive even written stories about what i would do in some of the world of some of the storys that i've read. or what i would have done differently any ways. That's why i mostly sticks too reading line instead of writing and posting thing online. U guys / gal's are really good writers as well as brave for doing what u do. I wish u all the best of luck in yea future stories.

Choose your own adventure
Hey Akiko, if that's how your mind works, maybe you should write a sort of Choose Your Own Adventure. Give multiple endings.
You know, changing your perspective slightly so "It's not a bug, it's a feature" :)
In NLP, there's something called Metaprograms. One of these is that people think more with Options or Procedures. Procedures people love following established procedures to get things done. Options people love *writing* new procedures... but can't follow them without tweaking them. Which annoys Procedures people who want to keep doing things the same way they've been doing it all along. Seems like you're very much Options. So am I.
I keep thinking I should write more actual stories. But most of my creative juice goes into creating TG stories for my clients, which they experience as vivid dreams in trance. I do post some of the logs of online sessions on my site (with permission), but it's not the same. It's kind of like me being the Dungeon Master with a single player. I'm wondering if some of these might be appreciated as stories here.
There's one starring a Saxon merchant running into trouble with Druid magic in recently conquered Britain I'm particularly proud of. Any thoughts?
Done
I just read this and i looking over a site now refreshing my mind over the Saxon's. Depending on what u trying for if yea going over the TG them. i have few Idea's. If not i have a few legend's that can work both ways. The Mains set up that could help would be the Saxons (and other tribes) first entered Britain en masse as part of a deal to protect the Britons from the incursions of the Picts, Irish, and others. The Picts were a confederation of Celtic tribes living in what was later to become eastern and northern Scotland from before the Roman conquest of Britain until the 10th century, when they merged with the Gaels.Just say the Picts gotten the Islands then Britain. That's ware u get your Druids. But it depends on how and when u have the Merchant get there. If its pre - Christan there hated by other there not that bad just trouble and the close too the End of the Roman Empire. It's during that time then There hated because of the Christan's are trying too force other too convert the churches that are popping up all over and kill those who dose not. That's about the time a lot of the Druids was almost wiped out due too being called witches and warlocks. As well a being betrayed by merchants greed who wanted holy land for minding gold and gems. So they may kill on site if they knows or see signs of him being a Merchant. Unless he can proved that he is still true too the Earth Mother he be dead as soon he steps foot into there land because they already know he / she is there. if yea give more more info i can give other ways if i know what way u want to go with this. but this here is your Base things that is hard set if u going for a more real set up too it. it well comes down too a battle of wit's and cunning. Like chest or numbers and brute strength with is how they was beaten in history. U can use the old legend of Sleepers if u know know of sleepers. There the ones who well awakes when true magic return too the world. Elf's and the sort. U never know u could be a Dragon and never even known it till your dieing day.
hope this help yea some.
Tip if yea like. Think of the toon while out and about doing your every day thing and make your self this person. Now think how u well u do if u are place there know what's maybe come how well u out smart them. No power no nothing.

Saxon Merchant Story
I appreciate your ideas, in fact I had pretty much the same ideas. :)
It's some years after the Roman conquest, a sort of an underground resistance Druid Liberation Front, with some sex changing magic. ;)
But it's not something I plan on writing, it's already written. It's a chat log, with someone in trance hallucinating this adventure, while I do the hypnosis, and then make the story happen for them. What I was wondering was whether such a log format for a story would be good here at Big Closet.
Maybe
U well never know till u try it out here. I've seen a lot different types of formats on the site and i tell yea it mostly depends on the story type and how its worded. The best thing too do it too ether post it as is, look for a story that is close too the format that it is now and use there's too see if it works. Or check with some of the older writers too help yea. Don't asked me too pick because that me i have too chose one that i like most and like all of them. just me wonders from story to story depending on the mood that i am in. from the sound it. Looks like u may have a very nice epic in hiding. if yea needs a hand place a post and ask for help there is a lot of folks here that would help yea. yea can even post some of yea story and see what feed back u get. good or bad least u know what u needs too do too twink the story so that i t come out right like u want it.
Well that enuf rambling

Some Thoughts on Writing
I know I will be pilloried for being a shameless self-promoter by many here by even daring to mention this, but for those who are just starting out or are having problems with writing, I encourage you to go to my web site (www.nancycole.org) and read the section entitled 'On Writing.' It was written to help those are just starting out.
My apologies to the author of this piece for butting in when no asked.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.
Writing...
I first started writing stories because there were certain kinds of stories I really liked, but I couldn't seem to find enough of them, so I started writing my own. Lately, I've been having trouble getting past the beginning of my stories. After I get to a certain point, I start feeling lost, and can't figure out how to get to the end. I guess that's why most of what I have posted, especially recently, has been very short.
Outline
I have a mind that does not take well to organization. Some of my notes from past Dungeons and Dragons characters would absolutely drive my Dungeon Master mad for how utterly all-over-the-place things were.
That said, I've found it helps to try and plot out the major points I want to touch on in a chapter, and then go from there. Some people plot out the entire work, but like I said, I am WAY too disorganized for that.
Hope it helps a bit, though :-D

I offer challenges by posting the beginning of a story...
...that has most of the stumbling blocks for newbies done for them. The last challenge the beginning was shorter than this latest offering and I hope I get more takers for this one. The last one I had three and one of those takers was a professional fanfic writer and likes to re-write others stories.
This one is open only to those who have NEVER posted a story before. It's okay if they posted songs, poems and the like, but they cannot have posted a story. It is purely for the newbie writer.
I also used a theme that has not been overly used I think.
Just my small way of giving something back to this site and helping along the newbie authors.
