I just noticed some authors are using the "TG other keywords" to duplicate existing themes/elements, splitting up the categories unnecessarily. Everything with this keyword:

Probably should have that keyword removed, and this theme added to those stories:

And similarly, this:

There are probably other similar duplications in that huge other-keyword list, but going through that monster is daunting. :) Are there any available modules that help manage its growth, ways to prevent authors from adding useless keywords that really don't help categorize the story?

I think part of the reason
I think part of the reason it happens is that authors are unaware they can choose more than one option in those boxes. Text on the editing page that states that multiple selections are allowed, and they can do it by holding down control while making their selections, might help keep it from happening more often.

Keyword duplication
I have seen this before on other sites.
Despite there being menus with entries that meet the criteria, people still think it's okay to "go their own way".
I don't mean to cast aspersions on those posting, but following conventions is not much to ask and taking the time to look at the options first is not hard.
As for chapter numbering, Erin was very specific not long ago as to how the chapter numbering should be and here we are a heartbeat later with exactly the same issues.
Perhaps someone will take this on as a pet project or something - the conversions that is.

Are Keywords Useless?
It is said Meta tags are important but how keywords are used is much more important. Keywords are a very important part of site optimization. They can be used in different ways. They can be included in the title, descriptions, text, alt text, images, folders can be named, titles of articles, anchor text while linking to other blogs etc. Keywords are still very important as they help us to identify what the entire website is all about. They should be properly scattered in the text keeping in mind the text to keyword ratio, keyword prominence, density, relativeness and position. Optimize pages with single or two or three keywords they will yield greater results.
