You ask John why he turned Ken into a woman to solve his problem...

“You say that all of this was caused by your solution to Ken's costume store problem,” you say, “but why did you solve it by giving him a costume that would turn him into a woman?”
John chuckles, “I told Ken exactly what he was getting into with that costume. I told him the entire story... that being in the costume at midnight would curse him to forever take that form... or so I thought. He didn't believe me, and he was ever so resentful when he followed my instructions. Being in that costume enchanted all of the other costumes in the store, but it also kept him from leaving. Now that he's free, he appears to be seeking retribution.”
“What an idiot!” you cry, “How could he not believe a wizard?”
John laughs again, “I appreciate your sentiment. However, we have more pressing matters. I've already talked for too long.”
You both stand up when you hear a window break. It isn't at the front of the house. John throws a staff to you. When you catch it, you feel a power rush through you. You feel ready to find the source of the noise.
What do you do?

Uhmm, the rush of power
Uhmm, the rush of power likely means you have a magical staff for a weapon if needed, and it might actually have some sentience of it's own. So go Wabb- ooops sorry, Ken hunting, either with or without John, and hope you do not now look like John due to the staff. (Happened to me once in a game -- found a magical staff on a dias in the baddies lair and picked it up, and it put a glamour on me that made me look like the baddie, and my companions started trying to kill me! Turned out to be the only power of the staff. Sneaky, huh).

... but the heels are not stupid! Since you've gone out of your way to say that they are not magical and have no significance in this fantasy, they're probably the only thing normal HE has to hang onto - besides I imagine them to be cute, perhaps pink with little bows on the toes.

Lets find Ken with John along.
I'm Not Sure...
Something doesn't quite make sense: if Ken's intent was to kill the wizard, why was he leading us in the wrong direction? Seemed as though sex with us was on his mind more than revenge. When he was directed to the wizard's house through our intuition, he hid out of sight of the door. Ken seemed to be trying to avoid the wizard, not kill him. Could there be some other explanation for the broken window? Is John trying to get us to "shoot" first and ask questions later?
Take off the heels in case you have to escape quickly, hope that the staff can protect you from fallout as opposed to doing something further to you, and let Ken and John find each other. Not sure whether that counts as #3 or #4.
