Writing for a character that seems to have a mind of her own is a hoot. It's some of the most fun that a writer can have. Drew/Annie in TIP is such a character. One of the funniest things about writing for her are the things she seems to think but isn't willing to write down. After all, she's supposed to be telling the story and some things are just too embarrassing. ;>

I've got the next one almost done and plan to post it Thursday or Friday. And for the furriners who don't play baseball, well, stay tune. ;>

Yes, less baseball ...

... would certainly suit me :0) Despite the gobbledygook and incomprehensible technicalities I still like the story - perhaps it's the writing style. 'Course it doesn't help that ball and/or team games don't do a lot for me whether it's cricket, baseball or (real) football.

Just think of it as ground-bound quidditch. ;>

I was just thinking that. Except ground-bound quidditch

is VERY silly ....... I like that the kids are playing SOMETHING,
it gives these interludes a kinetic quality, something to hang the dialogue on.
And team sports, as opposed to say playing army, well it illustrates the differences,
what it was like for Drew to play baseball as a boy and now as Annie a/k/a Tink...

Name Game

You're right, that is a silly looking game, what with the brooms they carry around. ;> Sort of a cross between association football, dodgeball and let's pretend. ;>

And yeah, I picked a game that a girl might not be expected to play well but at which she would not really be at that much of a disadvantage in the under twelve leagues. But the game is about the social interaction, not the technical aspects, storywise.

How do people like the name Drew picked? I think Annie is a nice tomboyish name and it could have lots of derivations. Of course, the way things are going, she may end up being called Tink by everyone. ;>

Baseball is what they do

It seems an integral part of the story to me. It's what they do. You can't write a story in which people just change clothes and nothing more. The story has to be *about* something.

I didn't know anything about bicycles before reading Maddy Bell's and Angharad's stories, and I was a bit leery at first, but now it's just part of those worlds... you can't think of their characters without a bike.

If there are parts that are difficult to understand, they can be explained in notes or comments.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I like the basement element in your story. It's a way Drew has of connecting with people.
