Alexa B-Side: #23 – Game Day Morning

I woke up and realized I was alone. That was odd, and I figured that Alexa had woken up to use the bathroom, but I looked over and noticed that the light was not on. “Where did she go?” I wondered. I grabbed my phone and realized it was 6:45! I decided I should go and try and find her. I slipped on my robe and slippers and began making my way downstairs. Since we were going to watch the game with Daddy, Alexa and I came out to the lake last night to have dinner with Daddy and spend the night. It had been an interesting night as I could see both daddy and Alexa seemed a bit anxious. It didn’t take me very long that it was today’s game with the Eagles for a chance to go to the Super Bowl that had the two in this state. I am sure they would have been amped up if the Super Bowl was being played in New Orleans or Tampa or Timbuktu they would have been wound up. The fact that the Super Bowl was being played in Minneapolis this year just multiplied the nerves by a factor of one million!

As I made my way down stairs I could hear a TV playing, I could hear pots and pans clanging against each other. I could also hear two of people I loved more than anything ‘discussing’ the upcoming game. “So glad Sendejo and Thielen ae both going to be able to play today” I heard my father state, only to be rebuked by my other half.

“Oh, give me a break Marty! You have been bad mouthing Sendejo since the season started, now you’re a fan?” I couldn’t help but smile and sigh. The two had argued about the Vikings safety since the season started. At times it was good natured and at times it got a bit more heated. The arguing stopped as I walked in to the kitchen. A smile came to Alexa’s face instantly as she saw me. I went over and gave her a kiss and told her good morning. I grabbed a cup and poured myself a cup before joining my father at the table.

“Good morning daddy” I said. “I can see you two are getting properly warmed up for the game. What time did you two get up?” Daddy put down his paper and told me he had been up for about an hour. Alexa laughed at that. I turned and looked my partner who, as usual, had a comment.

“I down here at 5:15 and you already had the coffee made!” Alexa said teasingly to my father who tried to hide behind one of his many newspapers. Daddy informed me he couldn’t sleep he had something on his mind. “Yeah the game.” Alexa piped up from the refrigerator she was standing in front of. Daddy shot Alexa a look as if to tell her to be quiet, which got Alexa laughing. I then asked her why she had gotten up. This time I got the look and couldn’t help but laugh.

As we sat there, I noticed that there was a news show on. There was a storm on its way and I asked to neither of the two in particular. “Huh, what?” Daddy said as he dropped the newspaper. “I think they are still saying 6 to 10 inches. Haven’t really been paying attention.” I looked over at Alexa who just shrugged her shoulders and repeated the same thing. As soon as Alexa finished her comment, a live report from Philadelphia by the station’s sports anchor came on the screen. Daddy put his paper down and Alexa rushed over so she could see the live stand up from the City of Brotherly Love. They didn’t pay attention to an incoming storm that some were predicting would drop up to a foot of snow on us but a report that had nothing new to it got the two to drop everything. A year ago, these two barely knew each other, now they were as close as a man and his child’s girlfriend could be, especially when it came to game day. Once again, I had to smile. When the report was over, the discussion of the game began again. I sat as the two talked about how the defense was going to shut down Nick Foles and how Case was going to have a big day.

My enjoyment over the conversation was broken by an incoming text. I grabbed my phone and saw that it was our roommate and the girlfriend of Alexa’s brother Katie. They were going to come out and watch the game with us, but the game wasn’t until 5:40 this afternoon. I read the message “Do you care if we come out now?” I smiled and then typed my reply.

“Please!!! I don’t know if I can deal with these two. Maybe we can go hopping or something!”

Game Day!

While I know this really isn't part of the true Alexa story, the Vikings are. And like true fans, today is a day that is causing a lot of anxiety in the Bold North, including with the author. As Debbie V can attest to, I have have been in a 'state' since Friday and every hour gets worse! I thought it would be fun to show my girls going through the same type of things. Plus it gave me something to do as I wait for the game to start. I hope you all enjoy.

Skol!

As a Giants fan (as much as you can be this season), I can only say, "cute story and Go Vikings!"

Has the two on edge, but now Katie wants to come out? This is odd I wonder what's going on here something is up. Katie has never asked before why now? Maybe it's to help calm Alixa or maybe Danny proposed to Katie and maybe a double wedding. Grandma would love this for sure.

Love Samantha Renée Heart.

great chapter as always
