Lost In The 50s Tonight. A Repost

Printer-friendly version

In the spirit of recent re-posts, I wanted to bring this one back for one more encore.

This is a bit melancholy, but it wanted to be written and I just tried to keep up with what my muse was dictating. I hope you like it.

Lost In The Fifties Tonight, by Catherine Linda Michel

Oh yes, I remember... so, so well that night, the music, the feeling of being held in your arms, swaying together and hoping the moment would never end.

"Close your eyes baby...Follow my hear-eart
Call on the mem'rie-ie-ies, Here in the dar-ark
We'll let the magic
Take us away-ay
Back to the fee-eelin's
We shared when they'd play

In the still of the ni-i-i-i-ight
Ho-old me darlin', hold me ti-i-ight
Oh-oh-oh-oh...Shoo-doop, shoo-be do, shoo-doop, doo
So real, so-o-o right
Lost in the fifties tonight.”

Lost in the fifties. Oh God, that night will live forever in my mind and in my heart. I remember so clearly feeling so safe, so loved, held tightly in your arms. We danced the night away and, as the sun began to rise, we kissed, right there on the dance floor. Oh how sweet your lips were as they tenderly, then hungrily devoured my own.

"These precious hou-ours
We know can't survi-ive
But love's all that matter-ers
While the past is ali-ive
Now and for always
Till time disappear-ears
We'll hold each other
Whenever we hear

In the still of the ni-i-i-i-ight
Ho-old me darlin', hold me ti-i-ight
Say-ay-ay-ay...ӬShoo-doop, shoo-be do, shoo-doop, doo
So real, so right
Lost in the fifties tonight."

But memories, like all things past, must be cherished, re-lived, then always put away until the next time I remember...

"In the still of the ni-i-i-i-ight
Ho-old me darlin', hold me ti-i-ight
Oh-oh-oh-oh...ӬShoo-doop, shoo-be do, shoo-doop, doo
So real, so-o-o right
Lost in the fifties tonightӬ.

Farewell my love, 'til we meet again. I miss you. I love you, forever.

As I walk slowly away from the small cemetery plot, I can still hear the strains of that song. I can still feel the love we shared for so many years. I know we'll meet again, my love, and I await impatiently to feel the way I felt that night. To feel your strong arms about me again, keeping me safe and giving me so much love. The life we shared was all I could have ever hoped for, or even dreamed of. You accepted me for what and who I believed myself to be, and swore that it didn't matter to you... that you loved me and wanted to spend your life with me, and so you did.

Nearing the car where our adopted Daughter and her family await, I can hear the small voice of our Granddaughter, asking me if I'm crying.

“No, sweetheart. Gramma's not crying. She's just lost in the fifties and with Grampa again, if only for a little while.” I pat her little head and she nestles into my loving arms.

“Let's go home honey.” I say to her, and as the car leaves the cemetery, I can still hear, in my mind, and my heart.

"In the still of the ni-i-i-i-ight
Ho-old me darlin', hold me ti-i-ight
Oh-oh-oh-oh... Shoo-doop, shoo-be do, shoo-doop, doo
So real, so-o-o right
Lost in the fifties tonight.”

I go there myself on

I go there myself on occasions.

Know the feeling

I know the feeling, my wife and I didn't meet until the mid 80's but being raised in the 50's and 60's, we cherished the oldies as our kind of music. This almost got me crying because I lost her back in January to form of cancer and the grief is still fairly fresh. Until we meet again my love.

Not for me -

Not for me the fifties Cathy but you know why. However, the seventies? Once Helen and I met, now that WAS a decade to remember.

Lost In The Fifties Tonight ...

Is one of my favorite Ronnie Milsap songs. Of course, I have been lost in the fifties for other reasons. This is a small but beautiful little story of memories past. Thank you for sharing.

With confidence and forbearance, we will have the strength to move forward.

"If I have to be this girl ion me, Then I have the right to be."

Yeah....

Born in '49, but immature in every way except some academics; I only got into teen music and culture when I went away to college in '67. It's fun, but difficult to watch old concerts on TV or YouTube; so many mixed feelings.

My fave group was the Grateful Dead; yeah, I'm still that kind of persyn; it's just that my choices in drugs have greatly narrowed. I watched a 3hr 1976 Grateful Dead movie from MTV a few times recently. I hurt a lot because I was so into them, but I wasn't living as a girl back then. Seems like really badly misspent youth.

Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee
