a funny moment at the bank

Had a very funny moment at the bank today. Went in to get some cash out for my mom, and the teller starts asking me my address and phone number, and suddenly I realize she is seeing my male name come up on the card and I'm wearing a skirt. So I tell her I'm transitioning, give her the information she needs to verify I'm me, and I get my cash.

Makes me wish I could afford to do the name change, but ah, well.

At least I got a funny story out of it.

They did their work on the infected area on her left foot, and also lengthened the Achilles tendon on that ankle, so she will be hobbling around for quite a while. I'm taking in the walker she's used after previous surgeries today. The doctor thinks that is all she'll need to get around.

My friend Dorothy. I am awed and amazed at her life. Not that she understands why.

I'm awed and amazed that she's awed and amazed.

Edmonton Tornado 25th anniversary

Well, today is the 25th anniversary of the Edmonton Tornado, pretty much the worst natural disaster to hit this city at least in my lifetime. I managed to be out of town the day it happened, but the stories from family and friends about that day continue to move me all these years later.

Here's hoping there isnt another event like that in my lifetime here. Once was lots.

I'm curious how folks here would respond to the comments. What do you think of the column and the responses?

I may be wrong about this, but it seems to me if I comment on a story before voting that I am unable to leave kudos. If I vote first, then of course leaving kudos is not a problem. Has anyone else noticed this? The reason I'm saying this is that I just received a very nice comment about a recent story; however, the kudos count hasn't changed. I can't imagine getting such a nice comment without getting kudos.

If you have a pet, please remember to treat it better than you have to, because in them is a love and acceptance rarely found in humans - my dog never cared if I wore a skirt or not, which is better than I can say for some people.

Musings of a demented mind.

This blog is not really about anything at all, so those who are easily bored can stop reading now. :)

One of my frustrations with fiction writing is that ALL female warriors seem to be required to be nearly naked. This I do not understand, because anyone with breasts can tell you that the girls need to be aggressively supported and protected for a woman to be much of a warrior at all. Not only do they bounce around, but getting hit on one is a real owwie. It is confusing to me where this prejudice comes from on a site where many of us are professing to be women inside. Hmmm.

Most of my life, I was thin/skinny/beanpole etc. But just before I found Topshelf -- and maybe part of why I found my way here -- I got severely ill. It was in the late Spring or early Summer (depending on your definition of early June) 2006, and I was probably a size... 6 or 8 in US women's sizes, I forget. But I got deathly ill. There are other things that happened that day, but the practical upshot was I was completely bedridden for about 9 months, and could only make it 15-20 feet at a time for the next couple months after that.

Today, I made enough to go get a mani-pedi done, and it was a wonderful experience. Instead of the place in the mall I had tried before, I went to a little place in a strip-mall, and they treated me like a princess from start to finish, including the girl telling me that she almost missed me because she was looking for someone transitioning, and I obviously was a regular girl. (Okay, so it was probably for the tip, but what the heck.)

Looking for an old story

Hi! I'm working on a sticky block and somehow found myself searching through my memory for a story I once read, but have lost somewhere... I think it's in my amygdala, but I could be lost even there...

The story was about a teenaged boy - trans, at it turns out (!) - hoodwinked into a girl's identity by his cousins, who finds herself a TV (sic) weather girl, and then a reporter, and finally a news anchor, all in one summer.

Does anyone remember this chestnut? Your help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, the room I do my scribblings in is the one with the cupboard full of computers. It's too hot. As I write it's 33 centigrade in the cupboard, and I'm having to turn almost everything off to stop it dying on its own. What Horror Movies Do You Like?

So said, the best ghost movie of all time, or at least for the next 5 years.

Well, last night was a rough one for me. It started with an uncomfortable feeling in my genital area, which by lunch had progressed to actual pain.

The pain of course caused me a lot of psychological distress to the point that I was hyperventilating, but thank God one of my co-workers seemed to understand why this was so much WORSE for me than for a non trans guy - every painful feeling was a reminder of the part of me I would give anything not to possess at all, and I actually had to repress an urge to take the box-cutting knife I carry and perform some impromptu surgery with it.

Was a fairly benign procedure. Costly, but benign. They took my pulse, they took my blood pressure, they took blood, they took money. I did a few sheets of paper work prior and they asked me questions about that. It's easier to explain not having knees when they can see for themselves.

So, the result.

I am not all that heartbroken as I knew I would have to finishing cleaning it to make it work and its a fan I had repaired years ago. I just find it stupid that someone would come into my yard to blatantly steal a cheap little electric fan.

Seriously Depressed.

So, I intended to go camping this week end and when I got where I was going, there was lightning, rain and a tornado warning, so I wound up sleeping indoors.

As part of my meticulous planning for this trip, I managed to leave my Trazidone at home. By the time I got home, I'd been off it two days, and last night I felt I was doing so well that maybe this was the time to just quit it cold turkey.

Last night was so hot that I did not sleep well at all but did manage to get a few hours sleep in my, by now, sticky itchy sheets.

A day with my daughter

Had a nice day with my daughter yesterday. We took the train to downtown, and strolled around the downtown mall, had lunch, and then came home. I know it doesnt sound terribly exciting, but it made her happy. And I didnt really mind toning down the fem side for the day so she could have the best day possible.

Small things, but they make the world go round, don't they?

The Bear is back so watch you laps Ladies and Gentlemen

A few of you may remember me the wacky bear that hopped on laps, looked down blouse fronts and hid under long skirts (Well I actually flicked the skirts up)in Crystal's chat room when it was the place to be. Well as this is to inform you that I'm Back from the wilds and looking for old friends and hoping to meet some new friends. I'm sorry to see so many friends are no longer with us may they be having the time of their afterlives and wondering what this Looney HuggyBear is going to do next.

SMILE, smile, smile !!!!

It gets tiresome saying this, but I will once again. SMILE ladies, Smile.

One of my biggest frustrations is when one of you puts your photo up and somehow I can look clear through to your very souls and see the pain, fear, lack of entitlement that lurks there; though poorly hidden.

Do what every young girl does. Spend time in front of the mirror, lots of it; time that is. Some of you seem to think you look more like the front end of a locomotive than a woman, but there is actually only one difference between a born woman and us, and that is entitlement!

047) A Parting of Ways

Well. I suddenly find myself with tons of time on my hands. Part of me wants to be a total ass and try to go after them for harrassment, but... well, that part of me never really has been all that powerful. And honestly... They're being a lot nicer about it than they could be. A whole heckuva lot nicer than the last job to fire me.

Because of Piper I shit my pants

I figured the title of the blog alone should garner some attention.

So, how did Piper make me poop my pants, you may ask.

Let me start off by saying it is not entirely her fault. It's not like she gave me some hypnotic suggestion making me poop myself and she didn't play some mysterious note on an accordion that made my cheeks spread apart (For some reason the only instrument I can envision Piper playing is the accordion, she doesn't seem like a harpist to me.)

Here is why my little accident is Piper's fault:

Erin's Extended Vacation...

Just an FYI...

Erin is still home, but she is currently without internet acces. She's trying to figure the problem out herself, but the soonest her internet provider can get a tech out is Tuesday.

She will peek in on us from time to time via her cell, and various wifi hotspots when out and about, but let's PLEASE keep up our good record and leave the place mostly in tact for when she gets back online again.

finding a story series.

I am trying to find a story series here on this site. I can't remember the author's name but it dealt with a teen who transitioned, and got some grief from his dad, older brother and grandfather, but they all came around eventually. She spent a lot of time dressing up at her grandmother's house. Also the grandmother gave the older brother a bit of petticoat discipline and he was tormented by his friends and defended the younger brother. I would be very grateful is somebody could help me find this story.
