I Am Woman: The Dani Affair (The Dani Chronicles Book 1)

In some place of the world an eye for an eye is still the law

There are places in the Middle East where men who are intent on running the world use the same Sharia Law that has been in effect since biblical times.

Bloody and vicious punishments that were common place in medieval times are still valid choices as effective tools for maintaining order. Cruel and unusual punishments are the norm: A woman can be buried neck deep and stoned to death for infidelity, a thief can have his hand removed by axe, or a rapist might be beheaded. This is the world that recent Princeton graduate Dan Roberts finds himself in as modern Euro-American values conflict with the culture he ha immersed himself in.

Working for Amnesty for All as an investigator in Iran, Dan Roberts is looking to make an immediate impact on the world. His first case is following the case of a man who threw acid at a woman he was stalking and blinded her. His punishment, to have acid dropped in his eyes to even up the score. On behalf of Amnesty for All, Dan wants to step in and put an end to such barbarism. But while on assignment, he meets a beautiful Suri and as hormones rage, Dan finds himself in Tehran's infamous Evin prison.

Sharia Law prevails and Dan Roberts finds out firsthand how creative and vicious it can be.

Follow his long incarceration, torture and forced transformation. Don't miss the complex interactions of the elderly Sharia Judiciary Chief Judge Mohammad Farrahi whose actions move from radical disgust for the young American and a sentence to be executed by beheading to an accepted admiration and friendship. Through all this inhumanity, love grows and flourishes, but sexual identities become blurred. Follow the efforts of Dan's Mother and family, Amnesty for All, The United Nations, the CIA and two Presidents to bring him home and return his life to normal, but what is normal?

Reward yourself by buying this book today, your life will be richer for it.

Not that it really matters, but...

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

Muhammad, the writer of the Qu'ran, from which Sharia Law is derived, died in A.D. 632, nearly 500 years after the last book in the Bible was written. So, the statement, "the same Sharia Law that has been in effect since biblical times" is a bit of an exaggeration.

None the less, the law itself has been in existence for over 1000 years and is deeply rooted in Muslim belief. I can see where it would present a good basis for conflict necessary for a good story. I can't imagine what it would be like to be a woman under Sharia Law.

Though the qu'ran was written

Though the qu'ran was written in 600 ad, the muslim religion is founded on the Jewish faith and the concept of an Eye for an Eye is from leviticus.

Writing is what you do when you put pen to paper, being an author is what you do when you bring words to life

To be fair

And not to get into this too deeply (though I do engage in this type of thing regularly since my conversion) but if you are non-Muslim, Sharia doesn't apply to you in the least according to every major scholar as well as those companions of the Prophet who spoke on such things back then. Also, in reality, there is no actual basis of what constitutes Sharia in any set way.

Other than that, I haven't read this book yet so I won't say anything about the story. Just haven't had time to do so when all is said and done.
