Happy Stonewall Day, everyone.

Okay, yes Stonewall Day isn't an official holiday - yet. June 28th is the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Some in the media call it a riot, but it was much more than that.

This event, 45 years ago, is usually celebrated now as the beginning of the modern movement for gay & lesbian civil rights. Without Stonewall, would Big Closet even be here today?

I give thanks to all of you, whether in or out of the closet. I give thanks to all of you who might be 'straight' as a laser beam and love some LGBTQ persons in your lives. Today, I give extra thanks to the people at Stonewall in 1969 who resisted oppression.

With love,

Interesting to note

It's interesting to note that while the police regularly raided gay bars back then it was the transgendered that were targeted to be arrested.

From Wikipedia

During a typical raid, the lights were turned on, and customers were lined up and their identification cards checked. Those without identification or dressed in full drag were arrested; others were allowed to leave. Some of the men, including those in drag, used their draft cards as identification. Women were required to wear three pieces of feminine clothing, and would be arrested if found not wearing them.
