It is that time of year again. Yes folks it is Eurovision time again.
for those on the Western side of the Pond, it is a whole evening of cringworthy so called entertainment followed by voting where nationalism comes to the forefront.
Each country sends one so called artist to perform a song. The whole event is broadcast all over Europe.
Once upon a time it was ok ut now it is nothing more than a farce.
This year, the event comes from Denmark because they had the misfortune to win the thing last year.
Transgendered people have competed before and even won (for Israel) but this year, we have the Bearded Lady singing for Austria. Conchita Wurst is her name.

IMHO, for the price of a few celatious headlines the acceptance of Transgendered people into the wider community all over Europe just got put back a decade.

Meh... if all that it's take to hurt transgender acceptance is a crossdresser on the eurovision song contest then it only reveals the hostility that was there anyway. Seriously, I'm with Martin Luther King in this regard. If some confrontation is all it takes to get hostility you're not provocing it, you're just revealing what is already there.
Hm... maybe I should waste some money to vote for her :)
Meaningless
Given how kitsch, meaningless and politics ridden the whole Eurovision Song Contest has become I don't think an Austrian drag act with a name that translates into 'pussy sausage' is its biggest problem. Still, at least Conchita has a better song than the UKs... That being said, I'll be cheering on the Netherlands and Sweden who have at least bothered to try and enter serious acts.

Political voting
Will take on a new twist this year, as both Ukraine and Russia qualified in the first semi-final. The favourite is apparently an Armenian going by the name "Aram MP3" with a piano-backed track that suddenly turns dubstep half way through.
However, I think the best tune in the entire contest won't be able to be voted on - it's the Prelude to Te Deum, and by virtue of being the European Broadcasting Union's anthem, a short pre-recorded extract will both top and tail the broadcast.
As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Yes folks, the Austrian Drag act.
I can't make up my mind if this is a good move for the LGBT community of not. After all, Bearded ladies went out of fashion with the death of Circus Sideshows.
