I was looking at my account details earlier today and I was shocked to discover that I have gotten over 5000 kudos in the year and a half or so that I have been on BCTS. It came as a bit of a shock to me with as much time as I've had to spend not writing since I started here due to health or computer issues. So I would like to take this time to thank all of my readers who comment, kudo, send me messages, patiently wait for new chapters when RL swallows me up, and generally make me feel like an author rather than a scribbler.

Since I started posting here my work has been much more well received than I could have ever expected. My recent story Naughty or Ice is a good example of this as I didn't think there was much special about it, it was just something I wrote for a change of pace and to get my creative juices flowing and the response to it has been overwhelming. You all give me the confidence that I might be able to actually market some of my work. To that end I am half finished a novel called Raven's Blood which I hope to have finished in a few months.

I have also written a prologue and six chapters of another story called Twice Removed. This story doesn't follow my usual fantasy or urban fantasy style and is sci-fi set in the not too distant future after first contact. The prologue touches on a TG theme but largely the story is about what makes us human and how we fit into the larger picture of the universe. I am however uncertain whether I should post this. Is it too different from my normal work? Do I have any business trying to write Sci-fi, or should I just stick to what people seem to enjoy from me?

Anyway a great big thank you to all those who read and enjoy my work. My writing would be nothing without all the support I get from all of you.

Best writing

Your best writings will flow from ideas of things that catch your interest at any particular time. Don't try to pigeonhole yourself into one genre or the other or your writing will be stilted and forced.

Best,

DJ

You're welcome!

All of us writers here are held up by each other. It's what make BCTS the place it is!
I'm looking forward to whatever you post for us!

To post or not.

I think that you'll only gauge people's reaction to the story by posting at least the prologue. That will hopefully give you some feedback.

I also don't think you or indeed any author should feel pigeonholed into one genre or another. Follow the muse, and if it leads you down a previously untraveled road, explore the new landscape. Don't feel you have to always stick to familiar territory.

I look forward to seeing where you're heading!

You're all probably right. I

You're all probably right. I really shouldn't limit myself and my muse has taken me to some strange places before. The only way to know for sure is to at least post the prologue, and if people want more then I have six chapters I can dole out on a schedule while I write more.

You could also try some beta

You could also try some beta readers to see what they think as well. I have personnally liked all of your stories so far and do not think that you should not do something that you think of just because it is something diffrent that being said more Alex NOW!!!!!

If you are enjoying the

If you are enjoying the writing and your many fans are enjoying what you write-- then I don't think there's any problems with whatever genre you decide to write in?

p.s.

I have enjoyed all your stories posted so far... so if you feel the need to write or post something, then perhaps I am an all too interested party to make a fair, neutral comment? ;)

Aww thanks

I enjoy writing them too. I just tend to get a bit nervous about trying new directions. I'm really happy that you enjoy what I put out there and hope that you enjoy Twice Removed as well :)

I Love Your Writing

It's great (my descriptiveness just deserted me).... I'm always enthralled.

I love sci-fi, too. Since you write so well, I'm sure that I, at least, would be very happy to read all that you could post here.

I hope that's good enough... I'm having trouble sticking words together tonight.

Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee

Thanks Renee

I'm glad that I seem to be doing something right. Hopefully you'll enjoy Twice Removed. It's a bit different for me but I've been doing a lot of research and brainstorming to try and make it consistent and a good read.
