This year I was determined not to hear 'Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time' until the day itself. Sadly it first assaulted my ears on November 15th.

First of all apologies for using that abbreviation in the title. If I hadn't I would have run out of characters.

Anyway, here are some seasonal melodies you'll never hear in your local shopping precinct. I'm sure you can think of many others.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Christ is born of the virgin Mary! Rejoice!
If you're lucky this may receive some limited radio airplay in your area

Earth: The Story So Far by Prefab Sprout. Best Christmas song this century

These are the Three Wise Men - XTC under another name, so it may be blocked in some countries

And is it too much to hope that this song might be number one across the world this time next year?

Peace on earth, and goodwill to store managers everywhere

Thanx for the great Xmas tunes!

I woulda guessed that was XTC even under the assumed name. An unmistakable & exquisite sound. Made me look for it in my collection, wasn't sure which album, but I found it on Rag n' Bone Buffet which I've just put on my Sears Teentone record player- Ah!

And that last song reminds me of the film JOYEUX NOEL. Very moving. I guess that ceasefire Christmas party really happened, at least somewhere along the battle line. Gonna watch it, but somewhere closer to the 25th. I think that's going to be my Christmas movie from now on. Somehow MERRY CHRISTMAS MR. LAWRENCE isn't cutting it, holiday cheerwise.

Happy Happy Joy Joy, Laika

(For some reason I listen to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos at Xmastime. And PLASTIC DREAMS by the Modern Jazz 4tet. I don't know why...)

The last album before they went commercial. 'Below The Salt', 1972.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Yes it is Maddy and SS

A blast from the past, which we still have on vinyl!

I also heard Banks of Claudy by the YT on Late Junction the other night - a similar style if even more rigorously traditional and from the same era. I had not heard that in years and it brought back a few pleasant memories.

Thank you.

The first one was simply beautiful, there are no other words to describe it. The last one made me cry. But it was a good cry.

I wish all the best of this season to all of you.

Again, just, thank you.
