I wasn't really ready for this when I found it on Facebook, but I think it needs to be widely shared and read. The author has done what I never could do, and expressed it well.

It has been a decade now. A decade without abuse being a regular part of my life. It might not seem like a lot of time. But I guess if you spent your whole childhood with it, then it seems like a lot of time. A lot of time to let it grow into you, flow out of you, time to heal, to embrace yourself and to become your own person.

It takes a lot

It takes a lot to overcome abuse. I've lived with it and still don't have a handle on it; I probably never will. It takes even more to share about it and that courage should be applauded.

I've been asked to complete my story ...

But seeing how upsetting these things are to my sisters, I am reticent to share it here.

I stand and say that we can survive and thrive after abuse even if we are not just like others.
