It's finally happened! A Briton has won the men's singles title at Wimbledon. The first since Fred Perry 77 years ago. I'm no fan of lawn tennis, but I had to wipe away a tear because this was sporting history.

To make the moment even sweeter, Andy Murray hails from a lovely little town on the edge of the Scottish highlands called Dunblane, which was blighted by tragedy in 1996 when a gunman opened fire on a group of schoolchildren with horrendous results. Andy's triumph has now ensured that the town will be remembered for a different reason.

his school the kids were from.

It's been a good weekend for Brits generally. The Lions beat Australia in the rugby test series 41-16, and Chris Froome took the yellow jersey in the TdF (and still has it). So young Murray winning Wombledon made it a nice hat trick of wins.

Mind you every time I tuned in to the match he started to lose, so I bit the bullet and waited to see what the result was.

I have to say that Novac Djokovic was very gracious in defeat.

Wasn't he though! I think he

Wasn't he though!

I think he understood just what this means to a country which codified the rules of so many of the world's most popular sports, only to find that those damned foreigners were better at them than we were. We even invented baseball!

But the serious business begins at Trent Bridge on Wednesday. The most keenly contested national sporting rivalry of them all is about to resume.

Well I'm

Well I'm not a big fan of hitting some poor defenseless ball across a net for no other reason than to say LOVE (GASP!!!)) and to wear some tight shorts, while trying to hit the other guy in the head with said ball. (More GASPS!!)

But seriously congratulations and I'll be rooting for you. WHO LOVES SHORT SHORTS?

Short shorts.

This girl certainly loves short shorts!!!!!!!

Not at all sure I'm happy with KP being picked. A 'show-pony' as described by a well-known pundit/commentator. Yes, he CAN destroy the opposition but does so very rarely, going ten or a dozen innings of mediocre scores before a mammoth one. A bit like Broady's bowling. Rubbish then good, repeat. Good to see Onions back in the fold. Hoping Bell pulls up his recent socks and I think Root is a good choice at 1 or 2.

Have a good evening and we can wallow in Jock Grumpy's win for a while, and the Lions trouncing the aussies in the last match.

Bon soir

This is me not really

This is me not really watching a cricket match at the Ashbrooke beer festival in Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. I'm not altogether sure what distracted me...

Please allow me to add my congrats to Mr. Murray.

I'm not really a tennis fan, but I recognize the skill it takes to play it at his level. This is a great victory for him, and for his fellow country men and women. I'll echo the header to this blog entry.

Good on ya sir!

Hugs and love,
